Celebrating 10 years of the Rivière Froide Kid Camera Project with One Bird
|
Ariya Martin, UNO assistant professor of photography, is a very busy person. Not only does she instruct photography students here at UNO; she also runs a nonprofit called One Bird which started a Kid Camera Project in Rivière Froide, Haiti ten years ago.
"This summer marked 10 years since One Bird landed in Haiti and the Rivière Froide Kid Camera Project was born," Martin said. "With the foundational support of the Haitian Association (AHDH) in New Orleans, we were once again able to assist our youth instructors so that photography classes could continue and provide nutritious lunches and fresh water daily to the participants."

Dr. Michelle M. Thompson, associate professor in Planning and Urban Studies, recently appeared on Dr. Neeta Misra's podcast, Policy Chatters, to discuss Quality Opportunity Zones, policy evaluation and innovation, where the policy has worked well and where it hasn't. She also discussed her work on environmental justice with respect to the water supply crisis in Jackson, Mississippi.

Students Help Restore Local Museum
|
Students in Rachel Breunlin's New Orleans Public Culture course have been helping with restoration work at The House of Dance & Feathers in the Lower Ninth Ward. The museum has been closed since March 2020 when the founder, Ronald W. Lewis, passed away from COVID-19. With the goal of reopening the museum, the students are gaining hands-on experience in working with collections dedicated to African-American performance traditions.

| UNO Survey Research Center Conducts Quality of Life Survey |
The University of New Orleans Survey Research Center (SRC) conducted a live interviewer telephone poll of registered voters in Orleans Parish and Jefferson Parish for the 2022 Quality of Life survey. Five hundred randomly selected respondents were interviewed from each parish from September 10th through September 28th.

University of New Orleans alumnus Kevin Mangum has spent more than four decades on the sidelines for the New Orleans Saints as an athletic trainer, keeping an eye on the health and well-being of the players—and getting to know fan favorites, including Archie Manning and Deuce McAllister.
Mangum hails from Tylertown, Mississippi and grew up watching Manning play football, first at Ole Miss and then later as the Saints quarterback.

School of the Arts Launches Fall Season
|
University of New Orleans' School of the Arts has launched its fall 2022 season with a calendar jam-packed with events and something for everyone.
For music-lovers, our popular Jazz at the Sandbar and Musical Excursions series are back. And new this fall, we are pleased to present UNO Limelight Thursdays, a four-week concert series at the UNO Amphitheater that brings some of New Orleans' most notable musicians to campus. Limelight Thursdays kick off THIS week with Cha Wa Brass Band. Click the link and see menu under the header image for each series' calendar.
