Save the Date: Earth Day
Celebrate Earth Day early with Green Team on Saturday, April 12, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Hays Nature Preserve. Enjoy earth-friendly exhibitors, Rise Raptor demonstrations, a bat show by Vicky the Bat Lady, the Science Machine's Science for Everyone Show, vegetable plant giveaways, face painting, sno-cones, hot dogs, cotton candy and more. Best of all, it’s free to attend. Free shuttle service will be available from Mark Russell Recreation Center (429 Taylor Road) to Hays Nature Preserve.

Wheels & Heels Bike Ride
Join Green Team for the Wheels & Heels Bike Ride at Hays Nature Preserve on Wednesday, March 12, from 9 a.m. to noon. Bikers, walkers, scooters, wagons and strollers are welcome. Enjoy a nature scavenger hunt and bike safety tips along the 4-mile route (shorter options available). Meet at the cul-de-sac near Flint River. Youth who complete the scavenger hunt will receive a prize.

Hampton Cove Meeting
Council Member David Little held a productive meeting last month with the Hampton Cove Homeowners' Association at Residences at Wellpoint. He shared the development plan for the Cove area and addressed questions about roads and upcoming community projects. Groups interested in having Council Member Little speak at their meetings can email the Council office or call 256-427-5011 for more details.

Arbor Day Winner
Adeline Mixson, a fifth-grader at Challenger Elementary School, earned second place in the statewide Arbor Day poster contest. She was among the students who participated in a special tree-planting ceremony with Governor Kay Ivey during an Arbor Day celebration in Montgomery. Congratulations, Adeline, on this achievement.
A New Chapter
As Huntsville’s historic City Hall is being dismantled, it’s important to reflect on the significant role it played for over 60 years. This iconic building served as the heart of the city’s operations, and its demolition, which began earlier this month, marks the end of an era. Step back in time to honor its legacy.

Amended Noise Ordinance
In response to resident complaints, the Council voted to amend the City's vehicle noise ordinance. A first offense will result in a $50 fine, with the option to resolve the issue and avoid the fine. A second violation within 12 months will incur a $250 fine, and a third offense may lead to a $500 fine, 10 days in jail, or both. The amendment took effect March 1.

Monte Sano Improvements 
The City of Huntsville and the Land Trust of North Alabama are partnering to enhance a pedestrian and cyclist path on Monte Sano Mountain. The project will create a 10-foot-wide asphalt pathway along the Toll Gate Trail, connecting the Land Trust parking lot to the paved trail at Monte Sano State Park.

Healthy Hearts Expo
Council Member Little attended the Healthy Hearts Expo at the Mark Russell Recreation Center, where participants aged 50+ learned how to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Attendees explored vendor tables and took part in sessions on staying safe online or trying new activities like pickleball. It’s never too late to adopt healthy habits
Beautification Award Nominations
Nominations are open for the 2025 Huntsville Beautification Awards. The City’s Beautification Board is accepting applications, with judging set for after Memorial Day. Submit your entry form and $50 fee by Monday, April 7. Properties will be judged on curb appeal, originality, design, plant quality, maintenance, hardscape and litter control. May the best District 2 property win!
