NAR Launches Right Tools, Right Now Initiative

In light of the challenges presented by COVID-19, and its impact on the real estate industry, the National Association of Realtors® (NAR) is taking steps to support members through these uncertain times. The Right Tools, Right Now initiative, which was activated once before in 2009, makes new and existing NAR products and services available for FREE or at significant discounts.
The program includes products, resources and services from all areas of the Association, including: webinars to help you manage your finances; timely market reports to inform your business and clients and digital tools for transactions and marketing.
NAR has also established a hotline for questions related to COVID-19 and real estate. Call NAR’s hotline at 1-800-874-6500 to be connected with a representative who can help!

Alert: Real Estate License Renewal and Continuing Education Requirements Extended

License renewal and continuing education requirements for real estate brokers and salespersons have been delayed 90 days, according to the Pennsylvania Department of State’s Bureau of Professional and Occupational Affairs. The Pennsylvania State Real Estate Commission has extended the PA license renewal deadline to August 29th, 2020 (from May 31st). Note that the renewal requirements are otherwise unchanged. The Commission’s PALS portal will open shortly for renewal. It is not recommended that licensees log in to renew their license until they’ve completed the 14 hours of continuing education.
Be advised that Suburban West has also extended the deadline that existing MCE Season Pass holders can use their previously purchased pass. The pass can be used by existing MCE Season Pass holders towards any 2018-2020 continuing education class offered through August 29th at the Malvern location and satellite locations of the Association of Realtors® School. We will continue to communicate with you regarding updates to the schedule as it becomes available. Questions? Contact ARS School Administrator, Gail Parke.

Showings and Appointments in the Time of COVID-19

The Governor’s directive on March 16th to stay home means STAY HOME. That means that all in-person real estate activities are no longer allowed until further notice from the Governor.
Members have told us that they have buyers and sellers (and landlords and tenants) insisting on showings. Furthermore, they are frustrated that while they are following the governor’s restrictions, informing consumers that in-person showings are not allowed, other agents are using this to try to usurp their clients. Many have requested that the MLS ban showing appointments and new listings.
First, it is unlikely that the Association or the MLS will (or are allowed, legally) to put a ban on new listings or showing appointments since technology exists to conduct showings without in-person visits. Read more.

Reminder: All SWRA Members Have Access to the Tech Helpline

Are you having difficulty with technology while working remotely? As a free membership benefit, Suburban West offers its membership access to the Tech Helpline!
The Tech Helpline is a member benefit offering support for hardware, software, networking and digital devices. The best part is you have the choice of contacting their friendly and knowledgeable analysts via phone, e-mail, or online chat. They troubleshoot problems and offer solutions, often by remoting into your computer while you relax. They can advise you on hardware and software purchasing, and most importantly, they understand your needs as a Realtor®.
To contact the Tech Helpline, click here or call (800) 897-0873. Please note that you will need your NRDS ID when contacting the Helpline. Unsure of your NRDS ID? Access it here.

Thanks to New Affidavit, Aston Can Continue Use and Occupancy Inspections

Aston Township recently amended its use and occupancy procedures. The new rules require an exterior inspection of sidewalks and an affidavit relating to safety items, such as smoke detectors and proper discharge of sump pumps. One unexpected benefit of the new practice is that the township codes department has been able to provide uninterrupted service for those seeking resale/occupancy certificates during the coronavirus outbreak.
