Dear Truckee River Supporter,
At One Truckee River, we're working with our coalition partners to increase public restroom access along the Truckee River corridor - protecting water quality while enhancing our riverside parks! We are giving away $100 to one lucky survey participant, talking about how native species make our fire-prone region safer, and being recognized by GuideStar as a nonprofit that's demonstrating transparency in our finances and strategies.

Making a Stink About...Public Restrooms
|
It’s not something most of us like to think about…but when public restrooms are tough to come by, nature still will call. That can have unfortunate consequences, impacting everything from our enjoyment of public spaces, to our water quality, to our sense of human decency.
To improve restroom access, the One Truckee River coalition has installed three new facilities along the Truckee River.
Did you know?
1. These new facilities have created a measurable decrease in human waste along the river, protecting water quality.
2. Reno provides less public toilet access than other cities.
3. The new Loos fit well into city and regional plans.
4. People we spoke to in downtown Reno are satisfied with these restrooms and feel they’re making a difference!

Have You Been Spending Time Along the Truckee River?
|
How have you been enjoying the Truckee River? Where do you spend most of your time? And, how would you like to see our river improved? Complete our annual survey to let us know! It should take about 5 minutes.
Since 2021, One Truckee River has conducted region-wide surveys to gain input from Truckee Meadows residents like you. We’re using our annual survey input to help evaluate the effectiveness of the One Truckee River Management Plan, as well as to gain general community insight. These survey results support our mission to ensure a healthy, thriving, sustainable river connected to the hearts and minds of our community.
In appreciation for your time, we'll be selecting one survey participant to win $100 through a free drawing, when they complete the survey and are signed up for our newsletters - as you already are. To enter, use the same email address you're receiving this email at when you complete the survey.

Wildfires, Water Quality & Invasive Species |
Our hearts go out to everyone who was impacted by the Davis Fire, especially to the individuals and families who’ve been displaced. We are immensely grateful to the hard work of the first responders who worked tirelessly to keep our community safe.
While it’s quite obvious how wildfires alter our community and our built environment, we less often think about how these bare patches of soil affect our natural world - and how changes can increase our long-term fire risk. Without plants to hold soils in place, sediments can easily flow into streams and rivers, reducing water quality and degrading aquatic wildlife habitats.
On land, one of the big fire impacts we see is in the balance of native and nonnative species. Cheatgrass is an invasive species from Europe that both easily catches fire and regenerates quickly afterwards. Here in Northern Nevada, it can blanket large areas between native shrubs. It completely dries out during the summer months, creating hazardous conditions in our fire-prone community. After an area burns, many cheatgrass seeds survive, germinate, and quickly grow in the fall months – while native species often don’t begin their regrowth until the following spring. This cycle increases our fire risks, reduces wildlife habitats, and degrades water quality over time!

To earn this Seal, One Truckee River has made the following information readily available online:
1. Showcase of Impact: In our GuideStar Profile, we demonstrate our commitment to transparency by presenting both our goals and the difference we’re already making along the Truckee River and in its watershed.
2. Strategic Vision: The One Truckee River Management Plan details our organization’s long-term objectives, priorities, and plans to achieve them.
3. Measurable Results: We measure our success through numeric metrics, providing clear evidence of the outcomes of our initiatives and the progress we’re making towards the goals outlined in our Management Plan.
