At the Environmental Engineering and Earth Sciences awards ceremony this year, more than a dozen alumni joined us to honor the legacy of the late Dr. Ben Dysart. Also in attendance was Ben’s wife, Betty Dysart. This year marked the third time we awarded the Benjamin Clay Dysart III Environmental Engineering Fellowship. Sarah Donaher, a Ph.D. candidate working with Dr. Nicole Martinez, is this year’s winner. Dysart has joined the ranks of others who are memorialized through fellowships for their lasting impacts on EEES and their contributions to environmental stewardship at the local, national and international levels, including A. Ray Abernathy, L. Gene Rich, Thomas M. Keinath and R. Ken Tinsley.

It was a pleasure to share time with all of you. As always, we rejoice in seeing our alumni and friends. Please visit us often on our beautiful campus—there is, indeed, something in these hills.

Over the past two decades, Davis & Floyd and its employees have generously supported our Clemson civil engineering students in many different ways — from scholarships to building improvements to enhanced student experiences. Their gifts include endowed scholarships for civil engineering students since 2004. In addition, they made commitments in 2011 for physical improvements on the third floor of Lowry Hall, as well as a 2022 commitment for the Keystone endowment and annual fund.
|
This April, at the 2023 Honors and Awards Ceremony, we celebrated Davis & Floyd and their most recent endowment of the new Keystone Design Experience Lab. Over the last decade, Davis & Floyd’s enthusiasm for Clemson Civil Engineering has grown as they have helped guide the faculty, staff and students through a transformational grant from the National Science Foundation to bring that Capstone Experience to the sophomore year allowing our students to begin by doing civil engineering. The Arch Initiatives curriculum is laser-focused on engaging students in problems that matter, supporting their technical and professional skill development through intensive team projects and communications, and resulting in solutions with positive and sustainable impacts. We are truly grateful to Davis & Floyd for their continued support of our culminating design experience — now known as the Keystone Project.
