Some Franklin residents unable to dial 911 due to damaged cable

Some Franklin residents who use AT&T as an internet provider were unable to make calls to 911 beginning Sunday morning due to a damaged cable.
It is unknown when service will be restored or how many people are affected by the outage.
According to Jill Burgin, external affairs officer at the Williamson County Emergency Management Agency, the emergency communications director for the Williamson County Government received a message from AT&T Sunday around 8 a.m. informing them there was an outage caused by a copper failure, which resulted in a damaged cable.

Thousands attend the Franklin Pride Festival in largest turnout in event’s history

Franklin Pride returned for its third year Saturday at The Park at Harlinsdale Farm with more than 6,500 attendees, the festival's biggest crowd yet.
The Franklin Pride Festival is a free, community-led and family-friendly event designed to celebrate, support, engage and unite the LGBTQ+ community in the greater Franklin area, according to a press release from the organization.
At a meeting in April, the Franklin Board of Mayor and Alderman granted the event a permit with a tiebreaking vote from Franklin Mayor Ken Moore.

Artists enjoy the exposure, feedback found at monthly Franklin Art Crawl

People packed the streets in downtown Franklin on Friday as the Art Crawl returned with its monthly instillations of art throughout the city’s historic buildings and businesses. Artists were present to display their work and meet attendees, and many venues included live music and complimentary refreshments.
“It’s really wonderful to see people’s reaction to the art, and also just sharing,” said Ronell Coburn, featured artist at Franklin Road Apparel. “Painting is very solitary and it’s a wonderful thing to see someone’s reaction to your art — it's great feedback.”

Centennial record-setting relay team, Brentwood soccer's Fields named final Gateway Tire Athletes of the Week

FRANKLIN – For the first time, a group of relay runners will be honored as Gateway Tire Athletes of the Week.
Centennial High School’s Rhys Ammon, Bethany Wright, Larkin Johnson and Gabrielle Boulay were named the Gateway Tire Female Athletes of the Week after setting a new 4X800 meter relay state record, breaking a mark set in 1979. The foursome join Thomas Fields, the Brentwood soccer goalkeeper, the Male Athlete of the Week.
The five Spring Fling stars were chosen as part of the Athletes of the Week awards sponsored by Garth Bouldin of Gateway Tire & Service Center in Franklin for the week.

WCS hires longtime technology leader King as new assistant superintendent for operations

Williamson County Schools Superintendent Jason Golden announced Friday the appointment of a new assistant superintendent of Operations.
Brian King, longtime leader in the WCS technology department, has worked for the district for the past 25 years and will replace Kevin Fortney, who will be retiring from WCS for a second time next month.
“Brian is known for his impeccable work ethic, strong communication and problem-solving skills and ability to lead others,” Golden said through InFocus.

Michael Allen Jones , age 59, passed away on Saturday, June 3, 2023.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Calvin and Mary Francis Jones; brother, James Larry Jones; sister, Sara Francis Richardson.
He is survived by his girlfriend, Ann Shaw; beloved brothers, Randy Jones and wife Jean, Hugh Jones and wife Brenda; numerous nieces and nephew.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, June 9, 2023 at 10 a.m. in the Chapel of Williamson Memorial Funeral Home.
