Hi everyone, I hope you are all having a great winter or summer, if you headed down South. Its freezing today in Whistler so obviously it is time to think about Summer!!! 

I want to start with some sad news. 

Not all of you will know but one of our Bike School Family, Chris Song, was in a terrible skiing accident at work last week. He is currently in Vancouver General Hospital and will be there for the next 6-8 weeks depending on progress. Once the specialists feel he is ready for next steps, Chris will be transferred to GF Strong. Chris will have full recovery from his other injuries but his spinal cord injury will leave him paralyzed from the waist down. We have started a Go Fund Me to support him and his family during this difficult time. WB and Worksafe are all helping provide Chris and his family with all his immediate needs, the money raised will help support the family for the future. 

Chris and his Family have been part of the Whistler Community for close to a decade. At this time he and his Family really need our support. We have set up a GoFundMe account (link below) and will be organizing further fundraising and a meal train for them in the near future. More details to follow.

Thanks everyone for your warm wishes that you have sent to Chris and Jieun, it’s very much appreciated.

I am already working on some summer stuff so I wanted to reach out and let you know my plans for the summer as I know the word is out already. After much heart wrenching I have decided to take a leave of absence from my summer role for 2025. For my mental health I need to take a sometime to myself and take a break from the year round craziness. My plan is return to Snow School for winter and to the Bike School the following summer.

Bart and I have not formulated a final plan about what the structure will look like in my absence yet but will let you all know when we have a plan. I will continue to work on summer planning and products over the winter and my last day will be around mid May.

I am so honoured to work with such an amazing team and I will miss working with you and being part of the Bike School. I did not come by this decision lightly, Bike School/Bike Park is my passion and it is super hard to step away. I can’t thank you all enough for all you do to make the Bike School amazing.

In the mean time I am here and committing to setting up the Bike School for another successful summer. There is lots to get organized for Summer. Please read the below carefully and make sure you fill in the return staff form.

PART TIME COMMITMENT:

We know that many of our part timers have other commitments but as the Bike School gets busier and busier we need to make sure we are utilizing all our staff.

Therefore wanted to let you know that the part time commitment will be as follows:

10 day minimum one or more or combinations of these options:

If you cannot meet this requirement for 2025 then unfortunately we will be unable to hire you this summer.

Filling out the Bike School is just the first step of your Onboarding process. 

This processed has changed since last summer. We used the new system for onboarding for winter and there were a few challenges. We hope that with better communication and some of the issues being fixed this will be smoother for summer.

We will be giving you some more detailed information as we get closer to summer but this is an over view of the process. Please ensure you complete these tasks in a timely manner to keep the onboarding process moving. 

1. Fill out the return staff survey 

This helps us with our hiring and know how many job to post

 

2. Please look out for a text from Olivia at Vailresorts. 

This is not spam please respond with your intent to return. This will start your onboarding process with the Vail Resorts system

 

3. Do your Pre boarding tasks

These will be emailed to you, please follow the link.

This is a couple of steps including submitting a criminal record check or law violation question

Every employee is now required to do a Criminal Record Check every 3 years. If you did one in the winter you will not need to do another one. You will have to answer the law violation question. 

 

4. Do your Onboarding tasks

Again this will be emailed to you.

Includes signing/re signing your winter waiver and other required notices, enrolling for benefits if eligible, completing your lift training etc.

I wanted to give you as much advanced notice as possible that for 2025 Bike School season. We will be restructuring our Fall operations. This means that the last day of operations for the Bike School will be Labour Day with the exception of Sunday Fall Club and advanced booked Custom Clinics (48 hours). We are still working on all the details and what this will look like for Schools on Dirt and Zero Ceiling programming.

We will only schedule pros to cover the lessons that we have booked in advance. We will keep a number of pros hired on an ‘on call’ basis and allocate lessons by rank. We will honor all Private requests as we do now. Rank will be adjusted for 2025 and be calculated for the whole Bike School based on your certification level and average hours worked over the last 3 seasons. If the highest ranked pros do not want to stay hired for fall we will move down the rank.

I understand for some of you that this will affect your length of employment and I assure you that we have not come to this decision likely. However we do think that those who work in these programs will get as much work as they historically did. We hope that with this advance notice it will allow you to plan for the 2025 Fall season well in advance.

Your T-4s are available online in EpicEmployee> Select Employee Action Center from the dropdown at the top of the page.

T-4s for 2024 earnings are available as of February 28, 2025.

Once in the portal, under "My Pay" you can:

View and download your T-4, and other tax documents

INACTIVE EMPLOYEES:

If you are an inactive employee please visit The Alumni Service Center. It's a website for past or inactive team members to access pay statements and tax docouments like your T-4, update your personal information, search for resources or get support from our HR Team.

Once logged in, you can access the Employee Action Center to view your tax documents and more:

User ID: your Employee ID number

Default Password: P$wdMMDDYY (six digit birthday) You will be prompted to create your own unique password the first time you log in.
