Thank You for Your Participation!
STAR Net would like to extend a sincere "thank you" to all the libraries that are participating in the first Our Planet: EARTH campaign. Please don't hesitate to share this opportunity with your colleagues at other libraries to register for this very important campaign.
By joining the campaign (350+ registrants and growing), your library will enjoy many benefits including this monthly newsletter, excellent vetted resources on our campaign website, automatic entry for various book giveaways and a free copy of our new Planets to Planets game among many other future opportunities.
Please take a look at some of our highlighted opportunities and resources below.
This campaign is sponsored by NASA through STAR Net’s NASA@ My Library program that is managed by the Space Science Institute. Partners include ALA, SciStarter, GLOBE Observer, IGES and many others.

    Collaborate with Other Participating Librarians!
To help participating libraries better collaborate with each other on Citizen Science and Earth Day activities, as it relates to STAR Net's Our Planet: EARTH campaign, we have created a private Facebook group page in which librarians can ask questions, share ideas and resources and post photos of their programming activities.
Note: This is a new group, so at first there may not be a lot of members and page activity but in a week or two things should get going as new librarians join the group.

      Participate in NASA's Tree Challenge!
Now is an ideal time to plan “tree-themed” programming for 2020. Not only is April 2020 Citizen Science Month, it’s also the 50th anniversary of Earth Day, and NASA GLOBE Observer is planning an international Trees Challenge in honor of the 25th anniversary of the GLOBE Program.

          Earth Campaign Video Collection
To help libraries and their communities learn about our changing planet, the STAR Net team has selected inspirational videos that show environmental impacts featuring scientists who study our changing planet and people and communities who are impacted by climate change.

The videos can be used by libraries to help promote their programs about Earth’s changing climate and the importance of sustainability, including on social media, and used to inspire learners of all ages at events and in classrooms. They are a wonderful complement to hands-on science activities such as the Our Planet: EARTH collection.

            STEM Activity Clearinghouse
On STAR Net‘s STEM Activity Clearinghouse, librarians and library staff can find Over 400 high quality, vetted STEM activities that are perfect for the library setting.
Users can sort and filter activities using many different parameters – including cost, difficulty, age level, and content area – and can utilize valuable how-to training videos, related bibliographies, and multimedia resources for many of the activities.
Be sure to check out the Our Planet: EARTH Collection, which features over 20 activities that would be useful for your 2020 Earth programming.

The STAR Library Network (STAR Net) is a hands-on learning network for libraries and their communities across the country. STAR Net focuses on helping library professionals build their STEM skills by providing “science-technology activities and resources” (STAR) and training to use those resources. Plus, engage public audiences nationwide in informal and lifelong learning with the excitement of exploration and discovery through STAR Net's NASA@ My Library program!
STAR Net is built upon a strong network of collaborators and partners, led by the Space Science Institute’s (SSI) National Center for Interactive Learning (NCIL). Partners include the American Library Association’s Public Programs Office, Collaborative Summer Library Program, Chief officers of State Library Agencies, Lunar and Planetary Institute, Afterschool Alliance, Education Development Center, American Society of Civil Engineers, and Cornerstones of Science. Major funding is provided by the National Science Foundation, NASA Science Mission Directorate, the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation, and the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
