Grant Ends But Programs Continue to Help People Become American Citizens

A grant funded through the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) allowed us to serve 440 individuals going through the citizenship process. The grant ended in December 2016, but the work continues! There are still 266 students who have not achieved their final goal and are still working hard to become American Citizens.
While the federal funding has ended, we believe it is essential to help the individuals who started the process. If anyone has ideas of sources of funding, please contact Ellen
We currently have 15 students enrolled in our 12-week Citizenship Class, which started in January. We expect many of these students to be ready for their Citizenship test in early summer. Many more people, who are currently eligible for U.S. Citizenship, have reached out seeking our assistance and we hope to offer more classes in the future.

Mother Language Day Celebration Saturday, Feb. 25 at UVA's Newcomb Hall

Join us in celebration of Mother Language Day on Saturday, February 25 at UVa's Newcomb Hall at 4 pm. Held in partnership with the local Bangladeshi community, UVA Bangladeshi Student Association, and the International Rescue Committee, this event promotes linguistic and cultural diversity and multilingualism through performances in native languages.
Members of the community are invited to attend or perform at the event. Performances can be any of the following: sing a song, or recite a poem, in your native language, or play an instrument.
Anyone interested in performing should contact Tanya Rahman at 434-872-3174 or tanya0rahman@gmail.com.
This event is free and open to the public. Please RSVP to help us know how many people to expect. There will be a free potluck meal at the completion of the program.
