Thanks for Donating in 2016!

Thank you to everyone who gave as part of our end-of-year giving campaign. Through your support, we raised $21,349 in December! If you didn't get a chance to give, it's never too late to make a donation.
Consider making 2017 the year you set up a recurring gift. Monthly donations are the easiest and most convenient way for you to give, allowing us to serve more students. A $25 monthly gift provides one workbook a month to a new student. Make a commitment to supporting adult literacy this year and set up your recurring gift today.

Citizenship Class Starts January 25

Paige Zelikow, Citizenship Coordinator, will be leading a class for permanent residents who are planning to apply for citizenship. The 12 week class will cover the civics, reading, and writing parts of the test. Students will also learn about the N400 application process and practice for all parts of the interview. The class is appropriate for beginning - low intermediate students and is open to members of the community. Class space is limited to 10 students. For more information and to register please call our office at 434-977-3838.

Piloting ServSafe® Food Handler Program

This year, we are piloting the ServSafe Food Handler Program which provides food safety training for individuals in the food service business, from cooks to wait staff. The training is done online and is followed by a test, resulting in a nationally recognized certificate. Our students and tutors can work through the modules together during their sessions, or the student can work on them at home or during their computer time here in the office. Interested students should contact Steven

Donations Enhance Learning Opportunities

In December we were grateful to receive three donated computers for student use. Two of the new (to us) computers have been placed in the first two study rooms closest to the front desk. The third is on the desk beside the filing cabinets. The computers have Microsoft Office, can print and can access the internet.
We also received a donation of a flat screen television, which has been installed in the Common Ground conference room. We look forward to using it to enhance our workshops and presentations with visuals.
We're always happy to receive donations that help us better serve our students. If you'd like to contribute something to the office, we've put together an Amazon Wishlist for inspiration. Check it out and then shop local to support small businesses. If you do choose to buy through Amazon, be sure to use AmazonSmiles. You can select us as your beneficiary non-profit and a percentage of your purchase price comes back to LVCA. Thank you!
