Living prereqs for life on campus

Succulents are the ultimate student-friendly plants

That's right. What plants are more, um, chill about being neglected, left to their own devices, than succulents? Orientations, classes, parties, er, social functions, games, finals. Those come and go, but plants are always there for when the student(s) in your life needs a breather between assignments. A time to stop and admire the living treasure by their window or kitchen slider, or under the skylight in the common area.(Hey, it's possible that a dorm common area somewhere has a skylight!) Some of our faves for lower light spaces are haworthias, string of pearls, certain aloes, and gasterias, among others. Areas bathed in bright light have more options.

Make a splash with this fairy garden

In this YouTube tutorial, we show you how to give a miniature garden gnome the pool party he so richly deserves. It involves Crassula tetragona, zebra plant, cactus, and mimicry plants such as baby toes and *lithops, as well as a few choice accessories. Because every gnome should have a slide. *Eventually, you'll want to move the lithops to its own pot.

We'll kindly accept that gifted trio anytime. And from a mystery gift giver!

We thought now would be a good time, as we're touching on indoor-friendly succulents, to bring up our blog post on when succulents need more light in their lives.

ALTMAN PLANTS ON SOCIAL MEDIA
Do you follow our succulent sauciness on social media? You totally should! Out here in California, we can't wait for the return of "sunset season" in the fall. Until then, there's always Graptosedum 'California Sunset' to tide us over. Our heads are constantly up in the clouds anyhow, preoccupied by plants in gardens and pots, like that partially crested Echeveria 'Cloud'.
