Dear Deans and Associate Deans,

Research & Graduate Studies is gearing up to launch a new professional development program called DC Faculty Fellows. We ask you to nominate tenure-track faculty members, who are pre-tenure, from your college or school to participate in this program.

DC Fellows Program:
During Spring term RGS will work with and prepare a team of PSU pre-tenure faculty to make a trip to Washington DC. The DC Faculty Fellows will then travel to Washington DC to visit agencies providing funding. While in DC the team will meet with Program Officers at federal agencies and non-profit foundations/organizations to discuss their research and explore how they might focus their work to be most competitive for existing and emerging funding streams. The DC Faculty Fellows will personally identify and meet with agency staff members relevant to their research. Showcasing the innovation and strength of PSU’s research, our DC Faculty Fellows will also meet with Oregon Congressional delegations to provide an overview of their research and its potential societal impact.

Prior to the trip to DC, the Fellows will meet 2-3 times as a cohort. These meetings will provide opportunities for the team to develop collateral to share while in DC, refine their research pitch, and schedule meetings with agency staff.

Essential Dates:
January 23, 2019 Nominations from Deans submitted to RGS
January 28, 2019 Invitations to faculty participants
Feb. 15, 2019 First DC Fellows Cohort meeting
March 1, 2019 Second DC Fellows Cohort meeting
March 22, 2019 Third DC Fellows Cohort meeting
May 18-21, 2019 Travel to DC

Program Costs:
RGS will pay for the travel, lodging, and per diem for 10 fellows. Given the large disparity in the size of our colleges, RGS support will be distributed based on the percentage of total tenured and tenure-track faculty represented in each college. Therefore, RGS will support three fellows from CLAS and a single fellow from the other colleges. Colleges may choose to fund one additional fellow for the trip creating a cohort of up to 20 DC Faculty Fellows for 2019.

Nomination Process:
Please confirm with your nominees that they can attend all of the training dates and are available to travel to DC. Nominations are due no later than January 23rd.

Please submit nominations using this google form.

Associate Vice President for Research & Graduate Studies
