NTID’s Summer Vestibule Program |
|
|
On August 14, RIT/NTID welcomed to campus first-year and transfer students entering associate degree programs, associate+bachelor’s degree programs, pre-baccalaureate programs, and NTID career exploration studies. The students participated in the NTID Summer Vestibule Program, a two-week orientation program designed to help deaf and hard-of-hearing students ease their transition to college life prior to the start of the academic year.
Students made the most of SVP, where they had opportunities to interact with other incoming deaf and hard-of-hearing students as well as staff and faculty. They also met current RIT/NTID students, and participated in interactive sessions and activities, all designed to help them get a great start in college.

Parents and Family Orientation |
|
|
On August 15, NTID SVP staff hosted Parents and Family Orientation, offering information sessions where parents and family members learned more about resources and support services available for their deaf and hard-of-hearing students, attended Q&A panels with RIT/NTID staff and faculty from Academic Affairs and Student Affairs, and more.
RIT/NTID is excited to have all our new students join the Tiger family. While transition to college can be challenging and sometimes a little overwhelming, we are committed to providing parents and family members with support and the information and resources they need to ensure their students’ success during their transition and throughout their entire college experience. Be sure to check out all the resources available for parents and families.

President Solomon enjoyed the opportunity to meet and interact with students, faculty, staff, and community members and shared her excitement, energy, and vision for the future of NTID. RIT/NTID is looking forward to all of the amazing things ahead under her leadership.

Tiger Walk and Fall Convocation for New Students |
RIT’s Tiger Walk and Fall Convocation for New Students, held this year on August 21, are annual fall traditions, where RIT/NTID staff, faculty, and students come together to celebrate our new students.
Following a group photo, students paraded together through on Tiger Walk, where faculty, staff, and the RIT Pep Band lined up to greet and cheer on students as they headed to the Gordon Field House and Activities for the convocation.
At convocation, administrators, faculty, staff, and students urged new students to dream big, study hard, get involved, and reach out for help when they need it. As this event concluded, students wrote their goals and dreams on a piece of paper, folded it into an airplane and launched them in the air, symbolizing the opportunities at RIT for them to aim high and soar as they pursue their dreams.
