Now more than ever, the National HCH Council’s work to support and inspire providers, consumers, and advocates in homeless health care is vital—and we need your help to identify outstanding leaders to help us continue to grow and prosper in our efforts. Please nominate individuals to serve as Board members to help guide our strategic direction as we strive to improve care for people without homes and eliminate homelessness. Particularly in this critical year of strategic planning, our success will depend on having an engaged, dynamic, informed, and inclusive Board of Directors for 2018-2019. Learn more and submit your nomination by Mar. 13; self-nominations are encouraged.
Feb. 13 Webinar Will Provide an Introduction to the HCH Model of Care
A free Council webinar at 2-3 p.m. CT on Feb. 13 will present an overview of the Health Care for the Homeless (HCH) program and the models of care used by HCH sites nationwide. It can be difficult to meet the complex needs of patients experiencing homelessness in traditional health care settings. Join Alaina Boyer, PhD, Director of Research at the NHCHC, and Eowyn Rieke, MD, MPH, Associate Medical Director of Primary Care at Central City Concern’s Old Town Clinic, for a look at how HCH programs meet the specialized health care needs of these patients, as well as strategies in implementing the HCH model of care in medical practice. Registration is open now.
Health Center Fix is Imminent: Let’s Get This Done!
Today Congress is expected to pass a piece of legislation that fixes the Health Center Funding Cliff by funding Health Centers through September 30, 2019 ($3.8 billion in 2018 and $ 4 billion in 2019). The remaining $1.5 billion in Health Center funding will be funded as a part of upcoming budget negotiations and is not a concern for advocates. Follow our partners at the Health Center Advocacy Network online and on Twitter for recent updates and actions alerts to help get this done today. Find other policy updates on work requirements, federal rules on moral/religious exemptions for providing care, the opioid crisis, and more in our latest Mobilizer.
Applications Open for Our John N. Lozier Scholarship for New Members at #HCH2018!
There’s still time to apply for our John N. Lozier Scholarship for New Members for our 2018 National HCH Conference! If #HCH2018 will be your first National HCH Conference, we invite you to apply for this scholarship in honor of our founding Executive Director which will support one individual's attendance--including registration, lodging, and related costs up to $1,000! The scholarship is open to staff of our Organizational Members, and strong applicants will be early-to-mid-career professionals (of any age) with relatively little experience in HCH. If our eligibility requirements describe you, please apply! Applications are due by Feb. 23. Contact Rick Brown, Communications Manager, with any questions.
Don’t Forget: Apply for #HCH2018 Consumer Subsidies by Feb. 23
The Council is still accepting applications for a limited number of consumer subsidies toward the cost of attending our 2018 National HCH Conference. If you have previously or are now experiencing homelessness and have used services at a Health Care for the Homeless program, please consider applying for a subsidy: these funds will help cover your registration, lodging, a meal stipend, and partial travel expenses. Help make consumer voices heard: apply by Feb. 23 to secure a spot for yourself, or share this opportunity with a consumer you know! Email Katherine Cavanaugh, Consumer Advocate, or call at (443) 703-1320 with any questions.
Call for Council Award and Steering Committee Nominations Still Open: Submit by Feb. 23
It’s not too late to submit a nomination for worthy individuals to be honored at #HCH2018, as well as for members to join the Steering Committees of our membership groups. If you know someone who would qualify for one of the four awards to be presented at #HCH2018—such as our Philip W. Brickner National Leadership Award or Karen Rotondo Award for Outstanding Service—please submit a nomination.
