Brebeuf Jesuit was blessed to host the Pope's Astronomer and Director of the Vatican Observatory, Br. Guy Consolmagno, S.J. on Tuesday.  Br. Guy's presentation, "The Heavens Proclaim, Astronomy and the Vatican” was enjoyed by all in attendance.

Brebeuf Jesuit also wishes to once again thank Virginia Marten, for graciously hosting Br. Guy's visit to our school.

Student Spotlight

JACK GUYER '17

Loves About Brebeuf
My favorite thing about Brebeuf is the feeling of community all throughout the school.  Coming from a large, public middle school, I did not know the feeling of learning in a strong and close-knit community.  Brebeuf has taught me much more about what it means to be a member of a community.
Favorite Class
My all-time favorite class was AP Physics with Mr. Rott. Though very challenging, physics taught me all sorts of things about how the world around me works.  Mr. Rott made the class fun and entertaining.  This class helped me to decide that I want to study engineering in college.
Future Plans
I plan to attend Clemson, Georgia Tech, Alabama, or Auburn and study engineering.  I may double major in economics as well.
Teams & Co-Curriculars
Golf Team
Entrepreneurship Club
National Honor Society
Ignatian Scholars
Work at Maggiano’s Little Italy
Church at the Crossing Youth Group
Random Facts
I love being outside doing anything at all from hiking to paddleboarding.
There was a time at which I could both solve a Rubik's cube and make balloon animals.  I have since forgotten both.
I love doing magic tricks and card tricks even though I am not very good at them.
What has been your favorite Brebeuf experience or most memorable moment so far?
My favorite Brebeuf experience has definitely been this year when we beat Cathedral in football.  I always love watching Brebeuf win, and when we are an underdog, I love it even more.  The best part about the win for me is that I nearly decided to go to Cathedral.  That game, once again, confirmed something I already knew; I made the right decision in choosing Brebeuf.
If you could go hiking and/or paddleboarding anywhere you haven’t been, where would you want to go?
Once it is complete, I dream of hiking the entire California Coastal Trail.  It is currently over halfway done, but it will eventually span the entire 1,200-mile-long California coast.  That would be a great accomplishment for me.

Summer Integrated Chemistry/Physics (ICP) Course

This summer, Brebeuf Jesuit will be offering an Integrated Chemistry/Physics (ICP) course. This course is recommended for students needing or desiring additional preparation for either Chemistry I or Physics I at Brebeuf.
ICP serves as an introductory course for both Chemistry and Physics moving at a pace that allows for greater reflection and remediation.  Students completing the course often feel more confident about their work in future science classes. By taking ICP in the summer, students can stay on the most common science progression, taking Chemistry as sophomores and possibly Physics as juniors.
This summer option could benefit the following students:
  • Freshman currently recommended for ICP during sophomore year.
  • Freshman challenged by Algebra I (typically earning a C+ or lower in Algebra I) and enrolled in Chemistry during sophomore year.
Course: Integrated Chemistry/Physics (ICP)
Dates: June 12-30, 2017 and July 10-28, 2017 (Both Summer Sessions)
Time: 7:30-11:30 a.m.
If you have questions about this course or whether this option would benefit your student, please contact your student’s Academic Counselor or the ICP Instructor Jason Rott at jrott@brebeuf.org.

Students Interested in Receiving Extended Time or Other Accomodations

Bistro's Fund-an-Item Supports the Jesuit Residence

Cirque du Brebeuf Bistro
Grand Hall at Historic Union Station

6:00 to 10:30 p.m.
Each year, Brebeuf Jesuit's leadership team, in cooperation with the Bistro committee, selects an item to be funded as part of the Brebeuf Bistro for “Fund-an-Item.” Previous year’s items have included bleachers for the West Gym, the Bravewalk (sidewalk that lines the front of campus), science lab equipment, computer charging stations and many more items that positively impact the school community.
The 2017 Bistro Fund-An-Item will be the Jesuit Residence. Brebeuf is most fortunate to have seven Jesuits who live in the home that resides on on our campus.
The residence is in need of some repairs that include: the renovation of three bathrooms; updates to the den; exterior updates to doors, handrails, windows, and lighting; HVAC modifications; kitchen updates; and interior updates to floors, walls and ceilings. Brebeuf is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the residence and support from our community will allow us to tackle this current list of needs and repairs.
Students, faculty, alumni and parents are the recipients of the enriched experience, teachings and impact the Jesuits bring to our community. Working together, we can ensure that their home is comfortable, safe and offers adequate space for the members of the Jesuit community to live. They provide a living foundation for our mission and their impact in our school, interaction with our students, and outreach to the community is significant.
During the Bistro, our auctioneer will guide our guests through the opportunity to support Fund-An-Item; however, should you not be able to join us or feel inclined to support this effort, you may do so by clicking the link below to make your gift to support the repairs and updates to the Jesuit Residence at Brebeuf.
Thank you and we look forward to seeing you on the 25th at Union Station for Cirque du Brebeuf.
