Brefeuf Jesuit Pink-Out This Friday!

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month and all those with family, friends, loved ones, as well as members of the Brebeuf Jesuit community whose lives have been impacted by breast cancer, this Friday, October 19 will be a Brebeuf Pink-Out.
We encourage students to wear pink during the school day and at the football game that evening.
Additionally, we will offer a prayer service during the 11:10 a.m. PRT on Friday to pray for all those affected by breast cancer.
To help get everyone in the Pink-Out spirit, the Spirit Store will be selling pink beanies for $5.00 a piece with proceeds benefiting Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Stop by to get yours before they sell out! The Spirit Store will be open from 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. on Friday.  They will also be on sale Friday morning beginning at 7:30 a.m in the Gym Lobby as well as the Moblie Spirit Store at Friday night's football game.

Student Spotlight

Reed Rouch '19

Loves About Brebeuf
I really enjoy the diversity in classes at Brebeuf. I feel as if I can pursue interests such as environmental science, philosophy and psychology. I also enjoy the mission of educating the whole person, because I feel like it leads to a more fulfilling life and teaches you many valuable skills others schools don’t. I also appreciate the opportunities we have to help others.
Future Plans
I want to study environmental policy, obtain a law degree, then work to help cities create policies that would make them more sustainable.
Teams & Co-Curriculars
Model UN
Boys Tennis (9th-11th grade)
STRAP Club
Internship at Earth Charter Indiana
Pike Township Environmental Plan Board
Regular radio show guest
Member of Thrive Indianapolis Steering Committee
Random Facts
I met the president of Iceland.
I have an addiction to Chipotle.
Oreos are my favorite snack.
What is your current favorite show or series on tv, Netflix, etc?
My favorite show right now is That 70’s Show, but my favorite show of all time is Parks and Recreation.
Where would you travel if time and money weren’t an issue?
I would travel to Kenya, because I have not been to Africa yet, and my dad went there on a trip during med school. It sounds really interesting, and my dad said that the culture is very welcoming and unique.
You mentioned being a radio show guest. Tell us a bit more about that?
I go on WICR’s weekly update about environmental issues in Indianapolis every few weeks. I mostly talk about the work I do as a member of Thrive Indianapolis, but I also talk about the other work Earth Charter does around the city.
What are some small things that make your day better?
Getting into my car and playing my music at full volume after a long day, eating Chipotle, hanging out with my friends, my dogs, and ice cream.
Any plans for Fall Break?
My plans for Fall Break are to visit my family in Osprey, Florida, and hang out with them there.

Scholarships and Financial Aid Annoncements
With the college application season in full swing, Brebeuf's College Counseling department would like to share some important information with you.
See below for two helpful documents. The first includes details and links for the various components you will need to use in applying for need-based and merit aid; the second document highlights several major scholarships and their selection criteria and application deadlines, with links to their individual websites for more information.
This Tutorial by Ethan Sawyer,"The College Essay Guy" who worked with our seniors in August, is one of the best resources we've found. It comes with an excellent database and links to many helpful tools and information to demystify the search for financial aid and merit scholarships. We recommend that you listen to the audio recording and take advantage of the links below it to educate yourselves about this somewhat complicated piece of the college process.
As always, we are here to assist you as your search and selection come into focus.

The Indiana University Groups Scholars Program provides academic, financial, and social support to underrepresented students who have financial need. A student must meet income and GPA guidelines to apply. To learn more about this program, please see Mrs. Newman in the College Counseling Office.
Some scholarship opportunities are specifically available for minority students. Help Lance's Gift This Holiday Season

Lance's Gift, started by Brebeuf Jesuit freshman Lance Williams, is a nonprofit organization focused on helping the less fortunate - specifically the elderly and homeless in Indiana. With the help of volunteers and donors, they raise funds to provide needed items to a target population during the holiday season.
Lance's Gift launched in 2017 raising almost $3,000 to purchase more than 300 gifts for senior citizens living in Gary, IN. This year, they hope to provide even more gifts to the elderly of Indiana.
Please take a moment to hear from Lance in the above vide for how you can help out, or visit lancesgift.org to learn more.

Freshman Service Days for the Fall

We will begin accepting permission slips for the Class of 2022 Freshman Service Days this week!
Freshman Service Days are completely voluntary and do not count towards the Community Service credit at Brebeuf. They are offered each year to the incoming freshmen to help introduce them to the part of Brebeuf Jesuit's mission of being men and women for others, and it is our hope that it will start them on a path of service beginning before and going far beyond the hours which they are required to complete during their junior and senior years. This is also a great opportunity for freshmen to get to know more of their classmates outside of the classroom.
Freshmen can participate in one or all of the Freshman Service Days as space allows.  Class absences will be excused as long as permission slips are turned in 1 week prior to the trip.
Sign up by clicking here
Access the permission slip by clicking here
If you have any questions, please contact Nick Klingler at nklingler@brebeuf.org or 317.524.7005.
