A Continued Commitment to Promoting Wellness |
The Health Education Resource Office hosted the annual Student Wellness Fair on October 4th, 2023. Ten Student Affairs departments — Center for Sexuality and Gender Diversity, Emily Taylor Center for Women and Gender Equity, Counseling and Psychological Services, KU Recreation Services, Legal Services for Students, Office of Multicultural Affairs, Sexual Assault Prevention and Education Center, Student Conduct and Community Standards, Student Involvement and Leadership Center, and Watkins Health Services — participated in the fair, welcoming 125 students.

Hosted 530 patrons at ‘QTs in the Gallery', a SUA partnership highlighting KU queer and trans artists.

| KU Memorial Union (Union) |
Organized 446 volunteers to participate in The Big Event, an 24% increase from The Big Event held in Spring 2023.

| Sorority and Fraternity Life (SFL) |
Oversaw IFC Experience Day with 84 prospective students in attendance, a 110% increase from October 2022.

Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) |
Provided 1,052 appointments, a 11.6% increase from October 2022.

| KU Recreation Services (Rec. Svcs) |
Tested 127 participants in the Jayhawk Fitness Challenge, testing agility, athleticism, endurance, power, speed, and strength.

| Student Conduct and Community Standards (SCCS) |
Resolved 203 student conduct cases in an average of 8.9 days per case, a 14.0% increase in and a 21.9% decrease from October 2022, respectively.

Emily Taylor Center for Women and Gender Equity (ETC) |
409 participants across 14 Feminist Fright Fest programs, a 305% increase from October 2022.

Surveyed 1,225 residents to find 86% would recommend living on campus to a friend or family member coming to KU.

| Student Involvement and Leadership Center (SILC) |
Distributed $13,330 to six groups for student-centered programs through the Pepsi Funding Committee.

Health Education Resource Office (HERO) |
Provided students with 13 fentanyl test strips to prevent overdose and reduce harm.

Received $48,610 in grant funding for tax assistance programs through the IRS program, a 24% increase from the previous grant.

Received 226 student referrals from members of the campus community, a 23.5% increase from October 2022.

Hilltop Child Development Center (Hilltop) |
Guided 264 children and their families during the annual Halloween Parade on campus.

| Office of Multicultural Affairs (OMA) |
Surveyed 15 participants with all respondents strongly agreeing the Women and Femmes of Color Retreat was accessible, affirming, and safe.

| Watkins Health Services (WHS) |
Administered 1,261 flu vaccines to members of the KU community, a 36.5% increase from October 2022.

| Sexual Assault Prevention and Education Center (SAPEC) |
Trained 30 students in live-action bystander intervention scenarios through its ‘Boostander’ program.

Cornelius Baker, Adam Kellogg, and Ash Wilson presented at the MBGLTACC conference (SGD). Baker and Wilson also presented at the Tilford Conference.
Carrie Coffey received the WHS Employee of the Month award.
Gillian Eddington and Shelby Schmeidler received Hilltop Student-Aides of the Month awards for October.
Sony Heath, Zach Newby, and Melissa Stewart had conference presentations accepted for NAPSA Strategies, NASPA, and ASCA conferences.
Kelsey Hunter, Taylor Jones, and Ricky Pulley Jr. had conference presentations accepted for the NASPA Strategies Conference (SAPEC).
Dr. Steven Johnson received the Mike and Joyce Shinn Leaders and Innovator Award from the KU Alumni Association’s Black Alumni Network (SFL/SILC).
Taylor Jones received the Community CARE Champion at the STA CareCenter’s Ad Astra Per Aspera Awards (SAPEC).
Cheleia Marshall was certified as a Certified Tobacco Treatment Specialist by the KU School of Medicine (HERO).
Thahn Tan Nguyen received the ACUI Undergraduate Rising Star award at the Region II conference.
Ash Wilson was named Deputy Title IX Coordinator with the Office of Civil Rights and Title IX (SGD).
Men’s and Women’s Soccer Clubs received bids to NIRSA Nationals.
Men’s Rugby Club received a bid to the Heart of America Championship.
The Kansas Drag Showcase received the ACUI Region II Diversity and Inclusion Champion for Equity award (SGD/Union).
Sailing Club placed 8th in SEISA Championship.
The Water Ski Club placed 7th nationally.

Undergraduate resident assistant, proctor, and food board manager positions are posted for AY24-25 (Housing). The deadline to apply is December 18th.
