What is a personal piece of advice (business advice/saying/quote) that you lean on and could pass on to others?
I am constantly preaching to my team that "Relationships are Everything" and how important it is to network with almost everyone you encounter. Business relationships are a "living, breathing, thing" and need to be cultivated, nurtured, cherished.
Best business book you’ve ever read?
There are so many but I recently read Lydia Fenet's book "Claim Your Confidence" and I think her message was just what I needed to hear. It is a "pep talk" on steroids that speaks to perseverance and grit. When I am discouraged or feeling overwhelmed, I can refer to this book and know that I have the power to find solutions.
One misstep you took in your business that you could caution others about?
In an effort to NOT micromanage, I loosened the reins a bit too much with my last Project Manager. I trusted that items that had been assigned to her were actually being accomplished when they were not. I would caution any business owner to have several layers of checks and balances in place as this misstep has cost me dearly with significant financial loss, client trust, and countless hours of angst.
How do you de-stress after a particularly hard day?
My favorite thing to do (especially in the cooler months) is to take a long, hot bath. I love to soak with some type of bath salts and let my troubles just wash away!
What’s something about you that would surprise everyone reading this?
I didn't really become passionate about my design career until I was almost 50 years old! My children were mostly grown and out of the house at this time which allowed me the opportunity to focus my attention on building and growing a business. I like to share with others that it's never too late to reach for the stars and realize your dreams!
What EO benefit has been most valuable to you?
The opportunity to learn from other like minded entrepreneurs through the Forum experience. Forming close relationships, listening to experience shares, and learning about other types of businesses has truly been invaluable.
Any exciting plans coming up?
On a personal note, my oldest son will be getting married in Telluride, Colorado on October 7th! He is getting married outdoors on San Sophia Overlook so it should be quite beautiful with the Fall colors. On a business note, our new antique showroom and design atelier located in Belle Meade will be featured in Luxe Interiors magazine. We will also be rolling out our online shopping platform on Shopify, launching our new wallpaper bar, and hosting a number of Fall / Holiday Pop Up events.
