Dear Parents and Guardians,
In setting the annual budget, we always seek to achieve three goals: to provide the highest-quality educational program, to meet the full financial needs of our students, and to ensure the long-term financial stability of the school. The annual increase in the Consumer Price Index from December 2017 to December 2018, upon which we gauge the economy and our budgeting at De La Salle, was 4.5%, the highest amount we have seen in the last few years and much higher than the national average. ... Continue reading.

2018-19 De La Salle Parent Survey

If you have not done so already, De La Salle is asking parents for feedback about your family’s experiences in the
De La Salle community—within and beyond the classroom. The 2018-19 Parent Survey will be available until March 27, and your input is very important to the school.
You can expect questions about the school’s communication with you, school culture, the counseling and student support services, and your son’s experiences with co-curricular activities. The survey should take you approximately 10-15 minutes to complete. Please note that this survey is anonymous and your responses cannot and will not affect your son’s grades or financial aid award. We deeply appreciate your feedback and the time you take to communicate with us through this important survey.

Driver's Education - Quarter 4

Does your son still need to take his Driver's Education class?  This is the last opportunity to sign up for Driver's Ed for the 2018-19 school year.
Driver's Ed in the 4th Quarter begins on Monday, March 11. Classes are $150 per student and will be held in room 103, three days per week for five weeks, during 7th period.

Junior Prom - "A Midnight in Paris"

Golden Gate Fields in Berkeley
The Junior Student Councils of De La Salle and Carondelet are finalizing plans for the 2019 Junior Prom. The theme for this year is "A Midnight in Paris." 
  • Ticket/Registration price per student is $75. 
  • All tickets/registration will be through the De La Salle website: www.dlshs.org/campus-life/students/dances.
  • Guest pass forms will be available on the registration page. Students (and their guest) must bring their student ID with them to the Prom.
  • All boys must be dressed appropriately in semi-formal attire.
  • Tuxedos are not necessary, but dress shirts, ties, slacks, and dress shoes are required.

Mother/Son Liturgy and Brunch

The Senior Mother/Son Liturgy and Brunch is March 24 at 9 a.m. Registration for the Senior Mother/Son Liturgy and Brunch is required, and is $25 per person. Click on the graphic above to register for the event.

Spring Play - Pygmalion

The De La Salle and Carondelet Company spring theatrical production of George Bernard Shaw's Pygmalion will open on Thursday, April 4 at 7 p.m., in the Brother Celestine Cormier, FSC Theatre. 
Pygmalion Dates are: 
April 4, 5, 6, 11, and 13 at 7 p.m., and April 7 at 2 p.m.

Tickets for all showings of Pygmalion are $12 for adults and $6 for students and senior citizens.

Upcoming events for the De La Salle Class of 2023 admissions process:
  • Decision Letters for the Class of 2023 will be emailed on Friday, March 22.
  • Commitment Deposits for the Class of 2023 are due by Friday, March 29.
  • Monday, May 6 is the Welcome Evening for parents and students of the Class of 2023.
  • The Math Placement Test for the Class of 2023 will be held on Tuesday, May 14 at 3 p.m., in the De La Salle Hofmann Student Center. 
  • The Spanish Placement Test for the Class of 2023 will be Wednesday, May 15 at 3:30 p.m., in the Hofmann Center.

35th Annual Brother Maris Golf Tournament

Tax Season and Your Charitable Giving Benefits
Tax season is here! If you made a charitable gift to De La Salle in 2018, as long as you itemize your tax return, you will still be able to deduct your charitable gifts. When you are meeting with your tax specialist be sure to ask them about the benefits you will receive in 2018 and start planning for your charitable giving in 2019!

Winter Sports All-EBAL Selections
The All-East Bay Athletic League teams for the 2018-19 winter season have been announced. De La Salle had a total of 24 student-athletes earn All-EBAL honors this past season. Basketball had four All-EBAL selections and the league's Most Valuable Player, soccer had seven all-league honorees, and the wrestling team had 13 all-league finishers. Tuition Payments
As a reminder, tuition payments are due on the 1st of each month and considered late after the 10th of that month.  If you have questions relating to your tuition obligation, call Ms. Kathy Resch in the Business Office at 925-288-8122 or e-mail her at reschk@dlshs.org.
All accounts must be current for your son to be able to participate in graduation activities, finals, and to be able to re-enroll for the 2019-20 school year.
Financial Aid Applications through FACTS for the 2019-20 are still available through our website. Families currently receiving a financial aid grant must re-apply every school year.
2019-20 Financial Aid Applications were due February 11, 2019

Class Council Elections
Students interested in running for class council leadership position for the 2019-20 school year have submitted applications and are currently being screened by senior leadership. Elections are scheduled for March 28.

Most of the sophomores will be walking alongside the poor, hungry and homeless in the Tenderloin District of San Francisco this March.
  • On March 6, Ash Wednesday, De La Salle came together to pray the beginning of the Lent Season, and  launched our annual Spartan Charity Challenge. The entire DLS community will be challenged to raise at least $11,037.82 to support five charitable organizations in Africa, Sri Lanka, India, and right here in our own backyard.
  • On March 18, a group of adults and students will head to the San Diego border to see, experience, witness, and learn the reality of the migrants who risk their lives, desperately seeking to come to the US.
  • On March 20, we will have the opportunity to participate in the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
  • On March 26, a group of seniors and juniors will be heading to Healdsburg for the last Kairos retreat of the year.


DVC Assessment & Placement Process
Tuesday, March 12 at 1:10-3:30 p.m.
DVC Student Services Center

A field trip to DVC is planned for interested seniors, to complete required Enrollment Steps that lead to priority registration status. Prior to March 12, participating students must complete the (1) Online Applications for Spring and Summer 2019 AND (2) Online Orientation at www.dvc.edu/apply. At DVC students will complete the multiple-measures placement for English and Math, take a tour of campus, and register for the required counseling class in March/April.  Participating students must complete and turn in the blue Special Admission Form and the Off-Campus Consent/Field Trip form by Thursday, March 7 to the College Center.
Junior SAT and ACT Testing
Register for a Spring SAT & ACT exam in March, April, May, and June at www.sat.org and www.act.org.
College Advisory for Juniors
All juniors will be assigned and notified of a once-a-week 7th period College Advisory class the weeks of March 25 and April 1.  In these two sessions, juniors will begin creating their college list and preview the college application process.

The De La Salle High School Alumni Association invites all soon-to-be graduates of the Class of 2019 to our Annual Dads & Grads Casino Night on Sunday, April 7, from 4-7 p.m. in the De La Salle Hofmann Student Center.
You'll enjoy an evening of gaming, catered food, and of course, BROTHERHOOD, as our Alumni Hosts welcome you to the Alumni Association.
$10 per person - Senior and Dad (or male guest age 25 or older)

As we move closer and closer to completing funding for the new Ladouceur Athletic Performance Center, now under a million dollars to go to reach our goal of $5.75 million, it is exciting to see the construction progress of the facility. 
Demolition is now complete, as are most of the seismic upgrades, and over the next month, we will start to see significant movement as the LAPC takes shape. Check back often to the Perfect Effort webpage, as we will continue to post images of the construction process.
As we wrap up the fundraising for the facility, there are a few significant naming opportunities still available. In addition, we have launched our “Hall of Fame Tile Program”, which is a great way to leave a permanent legacy on our campus. We will be offering a limited number of recognition tiles that will forever be displayed in the Hall of Fame Lobby between the Gym and the LAPC.

What if you could change the world – not just for today but also for generations to come? Moms in Prayer (MIP) is a program where moms come together to pray, specifically and scripturally, for the lives of our children, the schools, and our Spartan and Cougar communities.
We have a group exclusive to De La Salle and Carondelet moms that meets weekly at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Walnut Creek. Join us for this powerful time of prayer and fellowship, at our new time, Tuesdays from 1-2:30 p.m. We meet when school is in session, and do NOT meet on holidays, extended breaks, teacher work days, etc. We meet in the Mullens Commons on the lower east side of the building. We also have evening meetings for those who cannot attend during the day. Contact Spartan mom, Teresa Drake for more details.

Carondelet’s parking lot gates will close at the conclusion of CHS related activities, and Carondelet will not be responsible for cars parked in their parking lot for non-CHS related activities.

De La Salle High School hosts camps to provide a fun, skill-building week for kids. Appealing to local youth with a variety of interests, De La Salle will offer sessions for football, basketball, track and field, lacrosse, wrestling, volleyball, baseball, water polo, soccer, swimming, theatre, and strength and conditioning.

Did you know?

In March 1679, John Baptist de La Salle met with Adrien Nyel at the Convent of the Sisters of the Child Jesus.

During that visit, Adrien spoke about wanting to open a school for poor boys in Rhiems.

This visit, which some scholars attribute to happening on March 15, would lead to St. John Baptist de La Salle's involvement with educating young students, the gathering together of those first teachers of the Christian Schools, and the eventual founding of the Brothers.
