Curiosity Sees Martian Sulfur Up Close
|
|
|
|
|
Research by MCSS fellow Scott VanBommel and collaborators was featured as NASA's Image of the Day on July 9. The image highlights the first-ever close-up view of native sulfur crystals on Mars, captured by NASA's Curiosity rover. The team's research helped identify the deposit and sheds new light on Mars' geologic history.

Tectonic movements are instrumental in rocky coastal erosion
|
|
|
|
Cesar Lopez and Claire Masteller studied how geological forces influence coastline erosion over decades along the wave-battered rocky bluffs of the US West Coast. They assessed the individual and joint contributions of tectonic uplift, wave energy, rock strength and tides in coastal erosion and shoreline retreat.

MCSS Hosts Lunch and Trivia for Summer Researchers

| Undergraduate summer researchers from Physics and EEPS gathered for an MCSS-hosted lunch and space-themed trivia competition.
Congratulations to the winning teams! First-place winners received MCSS mugs, while the second-place team received MCSS binders.
