Grass Fire in Ken-Caryl Ranch Open Space

On Oct. 14, a grass fire started along C-470 and the Hogback in Ken-Caryl Ranch Open Space. Due to the proximity to the North Ranch and Ken-Caryl Valley, Level 1 “Be Ready” Evacuation Notices were sent to residents through the CodeRED Emergency Notification System. The fire grew to approximately 33 acres, and West Metro crews were able to contain it as of Saturday. Huge thanks go out to the West Metro Firefighters, Jefferson County Sheriff, the Ken-Caryl Ranch Open Space staff, the Equestrian Center staff, and numerous residents for all of their efforts.

Family Fright Night and the Haunted Trail on Friday! Free this Year!

Date: Friday, Oct. 23
Time: 4-8 p.m. (Haunted Trail 6-8 p.m.)
Location: Dakota Lodge and Bradford Park

Through a successful partnership with the Ken-Caryl Community Network (KCCN) and community sponsors, we are excited to be able to offer the Family Fright Night and Haunted Trail as a free community event this year! This two-part event starts with the Family Fright Night at Dakota Lodge at 4 p.m. We will have spooky games, costume contests and Halloween crafts for kids of all ages. This part of the event is perfect for your younger goblins who may not be interested in the Haunted Trail. Starting at 5:45 p.m., you can take the shuttle bus from Dakota Lodge up to Bradford Park for the Haunted Trail. The Haunted Trail is a not-so-spooky hike around the red rocks where families meet some local wildlife and learn about safety in the open space. As you hike around the trail, you will trick-or-treat for trail mix so be sure to come in costume. The Haunted Trail ends with hot chocolate, cider and s’mores by the campfire (fire conditions permitting). See more event details on our Special Events page. We would like to thank Crystal Hodge with Sotheby’s International Realty, Hawk Construction, Mike Schmisek with Farmers Insurance, Atlas Coffees, Tiffany’s Fabulous Books, Belmar Smiles, Supercuts, Home Depot, Murdoch's and the Botanic Gardens at Chatfield for their support!

Birding Hike Friday

Join us for Birding with Mike on Friday, Oct. 23 at 8 a.m. at Dakota Lodge. We will hike on open space trails and learn about area birds. Please wear proper shoes and layers, and bring a daypack with water, sunscreen and a snack. The hike is for 18 year olds and up and is $6 for a resident or $8 for a non-resident. Register for Course No. 31126 online or by calling 303-979-4070.
