University of Oregon
Dear Student Services and Enrollment Management Team,
We have seen our fair share of rain this month. But, as the saying goes, “April showers bring May flowers.” Metaphorically speaking, work across the division has been raining hard on all of us. From recruiting the next class of Ducks to supporting our current ones, we have all been working hard through the downpour. I know that all of your hard work will result in the metaphorical May flowers. Thank you for all that you are doing to make our division shine and our students feel supported.

SSEM Champions
Congrats to our SSEM Championship Belt winners. During the snowiest February storm in over 100 years, we struggled with campus closures and power outages, yet we had a dedicated group of staff that were here on campus doing whatever was necessary to ensure our students were safe, meals were available, and the campus was being cleared and prepared for all of us to return. I just want to take a moment again to acknowledge their incredible work to keep our students safe and well fed. Congratulations again to our colleagues in University Housing specifically Dining Services, Facilities Services, and Residence Life!
As a reminder you can nominate your SSEM colleagues for consideration; please forward the individuals name, position, department and what makes them a champion to ssemchampions@uoregon.edu.

Healthy Campus
On April 1, University Health Center Executive Director Deb Beck traveled to Chicago on behalf of the University of Oregon to receive an award from the Partnership for a Healthier America. The organization, developed by First Lady Michelle Obama, aims to cultivate healthier environments for children and young adults. The University Health Center collaborated with departments across campus to bring healthy food options to our dining facilities, and implement a variety of wellness programs to spark a culture change toward healthy living on campus. This was a multi-year effort, and the UO is among a distinguished class of 32 colleges and universities to fully implement this comprehensive Healthier Campus Initiative.

Recruitment
I just want to extend a huge thank you to everyone working to recruit the next class of Ducks. I have been on the road, traveling to receptions, attending Duck Days, visiting PathwayOregon Breakfasts, and was a parent at a Just for Juniors event. I met many families at those events and one thing is so clear to me—we have a tremendous team working hard to share our story and demonstrate our commitment to student success. Whether you are serving a meal, preparing catering, cleaning our buildings, giving a presentation, designing materials, reserving space, stuffing folders, and beyond, know that you are making a difference and I am sincerely impressed with the team effort. With two more Duck Days left on April 19 and 26, I encourage you all to keep showing your school spirit and welcoming families; wear your green and yellow, ask someone if they need directions, or just smile and say, “Welcome!"

Budget
Our entire SSEM Leadership Team is working to find solutions that will have minimal impact to our division. While we do not have any decisions, I will continue to message with you as more information is known.

Again, great job everybody and keep up the wonderful work!

Sincerely,
Roger J. Thompson
Vice President for Student Services and Enrollment Management
