As College Football Heats Up, TCU Brings the Snow

First athletic Snow Room in North America debuts in Fort Worth, giving Horned Frogs a first-of-its-kind recovery edge.

FORT WORTH, Texas — August 29, 2025 —In a state known for blistering heat, Texas Christian University is making history by bringing the chill. The Horned Frogs kicked off the college football season by unveiling the first athletic Snow Room in North America. The snow room can be found inside the newly opened Simpson Family Restoration Center. Under the lights, the flurries even look TCU purple — what Horned Frogs call “Purple Snow” — a recovery innovation that accelerates healing, reduces inflammation and gives all TCU athletes a competitive edge unmatched in college sports.
“The health and well-being of our players is a pillar of our culture here at TCU," said Sonny Dykes, head football coach. "With the addition of the Simpson Family Restoration Center, we are able to provide our team a world-class facility to restore their bodies and minds off the field so they can be at their best on the field.”
This debut comes as all eyes turn to Fort Worth’s home team, TCU, for the Labor Day primetime matchup against North Carolina in Chapel Hill — the only football game in the country that day. Adding to the intrigue, NFL coaching legend Bill Belichick will make his college head coaching debut on the opposite sideline. Yet while the spotlight is national, the story is all TCU, a program setting the standard for what’s next in college athletics.

It’s also a story about people. Quarterback Josh Hoover, one of college football’s Heisman contender, made national headlines when he turned down a reported multi-million dollar NIL offer to transfer to a SEC program, choosing instead to remain in Fort Worth. For Hoover, that commitment is reinforced by the investment TCU has made in its athletes.
“The new Football Performance Center and the Simpson Family Restoration Center have been gamechangers for my teammates and I as we prepare for the 2025 season,” said Hoover. “Our ability to quickly refresh and recover after long, physical practices has been greatly enhanced by these facilities, and we are incredibly thankful for the donors and investments that made this possible.”
“As someone experiencing my first football season at TCU, it’s clear this place does things differently,” said Mike Buddie, director of intercollegiate athletics. “The Snow Room shows that while others talk about innovation, TCU delivers it. In college athletics today, you either chase the standard or set it. TCU is setting it.”
TCU’s culture has always shaped what’s next in sport, from producing legends like Pro Football Hall of Famer LaDainian Tomlinson (LT) to setting new standards in athlete preparation. On July 29, 2025, the start of fall football practice, Tomlinson donated his Hall of Fame gold jacket to TCU and toured the new athletic facilities.
