Director’s Updates to Parents/Guardians: COVID-19 (Novel Coronavirus)

The Toronto District School Board is committed to keeping all parents/guardians updated on the impact of COVID-19 on schools and any developments with regard to remote learning. Below are recent updates from Director of Education John Malloy:

Statement on Addressing Anti-Black Racism

Letters from the Chair of the Board

On behalf of the Toronto District School Board, Chair of the Board Robin Pilkey issued the following letters to raise a number of concerns with the Mayor of Toronto and the Minister of Education:

TDSB Reaches Local Agreement with Education Workers

The Toronto District School Board has reached a tentative agreement with the Board’s 17,700 education workers who are represented by the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 4400.

Director John Malloy to Retire

Director of Education John Malloy will retire from the Toronto District School Board. During a Special Board, Trustees accepted his retirement, which will be effective August 31, 2020. The Board of Trustees have established a search committee for an Interim Director of Education. The Committee will present a report to the Board on the selection of a candidate with an Interim Director being named no later than July 1, 2020. Trustees have also established a search committee that will make a recommendation to the Board on the selection of an executive search firm to recruit a permanent Director of Education. Once that recommendation is presented to the Board, a Director Search Committee will be established.

Next Board Meeting

During the closure of all public schools, the Government of Ontario is allowing school boards to meet virtually. The next scheduled Regular Board Meeting is on Wednesday, June 17, 2020.
