Stress-Buster of the Week
|
Everything in moderation - that includes CAFFEINE!
As we know, there are both positive and negative effects of caffeine. While it can help you feel more alert and give you energy, it can also make you feel more jittery, nervous, or irritable, especially when you're stressed or more likely to experience anxiety. And sometimes, a cup of coffee can exacerbate your stress and anxiety rather than help it. Too much caffeine can even hurt a person's ability to concentrate, making studying difficult. We're not suggesting you forgo your favorite cup of morning Joe, but try not to overdo it! As for managing that anxiety, UChicago Student Wellness has resources dedicated to helping you lower stress and anxiety, like our meditation and restorative yoga classes.

As the holidays roll around, try a new way to relieve stress: laughter! It turns out that laughter has many health benefits, so the comedies that make you crack up may improve your health more than you expect. Research shows that laughter activates and relieves your stress response, leaving you feeling more relaxed after. In the long term, laughing can also improve your immune system, increase personal satisfaction, and improve mood. Laughter really is the best medicine! So, don't hold back from a hearty laugh next time you come across a good joke, and don't be afraid to share it with your friends, either! And remember, Chicago has an abundance of Improv and Comedy Clubs for you to check out!
