Inside is Your Spring Newsletter!
Dear Friend,
As Spring breathes new life into the world around us, we are reminded that the best time for new beginnings is now.

Friends like you have made it possible for us to continue growing our programs and increasing the number of children and families served in our community, even with our current location’s limited space. Hope springs eternal at the Phoenix Center as we continue serving more children and families than ever before. Thanks to your support, local children and families are healing and thriving... changing life trajectories forever.

Cause for Celebration
Hearts of Gold Gala a Huge Success! On Saturday, February 10th, Phoenix Center hosted its annual Hearts of Gold Gala with record attendance of 270 guests at the Palm Pavilion in Horseshoe Bay.  The Gala was underwritten in full by Horseshoe Bay Resort. All funds raised and pledged directly benefit our mission.
Thanks to YOU, we successfully raised 100% of funds needed to construct the ropes challenge course on our future site.  This is the first phase of building the future Phoenix Center campus.  Additionally, Phoenix Center honored Dr. Chris Allen, Superintendent of Marble Falls ISD, with the Educational Leadership Award. Guests danced the night away to the live entertainment by Plush, underwritten by Cheryl & Michael Foster.
Phoenix Center's Future Site is Officially Annexed into Horseshoe Bay! In February 2018, the Horseshoe Bay City Council unanimously approved the annexation of Phoenix Center's future site into the city limits of Horseshoe Bay, Texas. In November of 2017, Phoenix Center acquired 77 acres to serve as the site of their future campus to include a state-of-the-art mental health clinic, equine therapy center, therapeutic camp facilities, and a ropes challenge course. The new and expanded building and facilities will allow the organization to serve additional families in need.

Also in February, Phoenix Center's talented team presented our innovative model of Trauma-Informed Care at Texas Counseling Association's 13th Annual Professional School Counselor Conference in Galveston! Sarah Garrett and Presley Pacholick, school-based therapist, highlighted the major tenets of trauma-informed care, the neurobiology of trauma, and offered practical, ready-to-use solutions to increase regulation and decrease challenging and explosive behaviors in the classroom. Patti Cryer presented research-based strategies for stress management, and the use of yoga & mindfulness skills in the classroom, specifically focused on the schedule and workload faced by the school counselor. These topics are highly requested by educators and administrators, and future trainings are planned.
Over the last three years, Phoenix Center has provided 28 Trauma-Informed Care trainings attended by over 800 community members, including health professionals, first responders, and educators, in our local area. These trainings have been transformative and provided rural professionals with up-to-date and forward-looking knowledge of neurobiology and the impact of trauma on development and lifelong physical and behavioral health. Trauma-Informed Care was recently featured on the news program 60 Minutes. View it here.

Board Member Spotlight: Meet Susan Pierce!
You may know Susan Pierce as the President of Grand Bank of Texas - Central Texas, but you may not know she also serves as the Board Treasurer for Phoenix Center! We recently spoke Susan about her involvement with Phoenix Center and why our mission is particularly close to her heart.
What is your personal connection to our mission?
Mental health issues do not discriminate - I believe all families have a connection to someone who struggles.
What led you to the Phoenix Center and decision to be the Board, Treasurer?
Ron Mitchell and I were approached by Allan Garrett about joining the Phoenix Center's Board of Directors. I said "yes," knowing the need was great in our community, and I hoped my experience and relationships would be a benefit to the organization.
How have you seen the Phoenix Center impact our community?
I've been approached by parents and grandparents who have shared with me the changes and healing progress of their child.
What is something you want community members to know about Phoenix Center?
Phoenix Center has an incredibly talented and compassionate staff and therapists whose only goal is helping children move beyond their hurt, to grow and succeed.
Now time for some fun: If you could have a superpower what would it be?
Time Travel, so I could spend more time with the people who are and were the most meaningful to me.
What are some of the hobbies you enjoy outside of work?
I enjoy being outdoors with our horses and cattle, especially the newborns. Also, I love to read and tennis.
What's something most people don't know about you?
When I was 18 years old, I left for Europe by myself for 3 months. I had never even flown in a plane before. It was an adventure I will always remember.

About Phoenix Center
Our mission is to inspire hope, health and healing by providing the highest level of care to every child and family through innovative trauma-informed therapy and education.
Phoenix Center is committed to meeting the need for high-quality, affordable mental health care for local children and families.
When children have experienced trauma or abuse, research shows early intervention is critical for long-term well-being and health. Through our services, children in need are able to access exemplary mental health services and ultimately thrive as individuals and families.

Our Programs
Phoenix Counseling: Research-based therapy services for children who have experienced trauma, including play therapy for children as young as 2 years-old
Children's Groups: Therapeutic children's groups which promote relaxation, coping, and social skills. We use innovative, experiential methods such as music therapy, art therapy, yoga/movement & animal-assisted therapy. Research shows these methods are developmentally appropriate and help the brain heal and grow.
Parenting Groups:  Research-based parenting programs utilize research-based curricula with documented results. Groups are all provided at no cost and include school-based programs for pregnant teens and teen parents.
Camp Phoenix: Therapeutic camp sessions at Candlelight Ranch, including equine therapy and our own innovative therapeutic camp curriculum, found nowhere else.
Community Outreach & Collaborations: Trauma-informed trainings & community partnerships to meet the complex needs of children and families who have experienced trauma. Our partnership with MFISD allows us to serve more children in need today - before we construct our future facilities.
