ADUs and you: Big possibilities in small homes |
Newly certified as an Accessory Dwelling Unit Supportive Jurisdiction, Loveland is being recognized statewide for making it easier to add a second residence to your property.Â
Also known as a backyard cottage, a guest house, or a mother-in-law suite, an Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) is a small, private living space on the same property as a single-family home. They give occupants the independence of having their own address, entrance, bathroom, bedroom, kitchen, and electricity while sharing all other utilities with the main home on the lot.

Powering Painter’s Alley: A reliable transition |
Throughout much of the United States, utility poles are a common sight on the landscape. Loveland is unique because 87% of its electric power infrastructure is underground—an achievement that only a small number of cities across the U.S. can claim. Painter’s Alley is among the few remaining areas in the city where utilities are overhead. That’s about to change.Â
In April 2026, the City will begin removing the power lines above the alley and relocating them underground--a plan years in the making to address aging infrastructure and safety conditions.Â
