What is your area of study?
Can you share why Kappa Alpha Psi has been significant to you?
Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. stands for Achievement in Every Field of Human Endeavor, as our fundamental purpose. It pushes me to excel in everything I do. The fraternity was also started at Indiana University, which is not too unlike Miami University. The ten illustrious founders worked to make sure that black students would be both safe and successful on Indiana University’s campus.
Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. prides itself in inspiring service in the public interest. I make it my goal to make sure that all students on campus can be successful and that they feel at home here at Miami.
What advice would you give to students looking to strengthen their own core values or identity at Miami?
I encourage students to look for their interests and friends who share those interests. I advise students away from just joining something that they think will look good from an outside perspective. Go for what you care about.
There are a lot of things on campus that are values-based, both inside of and outside of fraternity & sorority life. I had ideas about what I wanted before I came to Miami University, but Miami is also an environment in which you can really find your place. And if you don’t see your values in a group or organization, work to earn a position within the organization and bring those values to the organizatio!
