Launch Days at Brebeuf Jesuit
August 13 (Maroon Cohort) and
August 14 (Gold and Silver Cohorts)
In order for every student to meet each of their teachers on the “First day of school”, we have created two special LAUNCH DAYS on August 13 (Maroon) and August 14 (Gold and Silver).
Students will attend each of their classes based on a special schedule. Students may either bring their own lunch or purchase it in the cafeteria. The information and teacher welcome will be identical and repeated on those days for each cohort group.

Launch Day Schedule Details and Notes
Classes are designed to be generally 40 minutes long, with a couple exceptions.
- Periods 1 and 8 have been allotted an extra ten minutes to allow for announcements, the Morning Prayer and the Daily Examen
- Period 5 includes lunch for 25 minutes for each cohort, resulting in 50 minutes of total class time for Period 5
Students in the Maroon cohort do not attend online for the Gold launch day, and students in the Gold cohort do not attend online for the Maroon launch day. The same information will be repeated both days. Silver cohort students will join all of their classes ONLINE on Friday only. Students should go to Google Classroom and click the Google Meet link for each class.
All students will get their school pictures taken and IDs printed during their Launch Day. Students in the Silver cohort should come to school to get theirs done on Thursday, August 13 in the East Gym due to being in class on Friday, August 14.
Students will be able to purchase lunch in the cafeteria with cash during their Launch Day, or they may bring their own lunch, if they prefer. Period 5 teachers will instruct students about lunch procedures and confirm which lunch they have (A, B, or C).
All students should have their self-screen completed online and be prepared to display it on their phone screen for entry into the building each morning. If students arrive without it, they will still be able to complete one in the gym lobby.
Purpose of Launch Days
The purpose of these Launch Days is to ensure that each class gets off to a strong start. Students will get face-to-face with every one of their teachers and be introduced to some new key procedures.
Following the Opening Prayer, Principal Greg VanSlambrook will welcome all students to school and talk about the structure of the day over the PA system. An important piece of this opening welcome will be the introduction and discussion of the four pillars of Brebeuf Jesuit’s risk mitigation procedures: screening, masking, distancing, and hygiene.
Following Mr. VanSlambrook’s introduction and welcome, students will attend classes utilizing the new Launch Day schedule structure. This structure allows students to be introduced to each pillar, along with other important reopening details. Each period will spend time discussing one or more of the following:
- Screening - when and why to not come to school or when and why to isolate/quarantine
- Proper Mask Procedures - Masks 101 utilizing visuals from Brebeuf’s Medical Task Force
- Distancing - how to properly distance and why it is important
- Hygiene - why appropriate procedures and habits benefit all students
- Lunch Procedures
- Class Schedules
- Student Question and Answer Sessions
Our goal is to present these pillars and strategies in a way that is not overwhelming for students and easier to understand. By allowing a smaller amount of time in each class for new procedures versus all at once, each class will also be able to execute the usual first-day activities such as course content, class policies and getting-to-know-you activities.
Thank you for your patience and support as we continue to navigate these challenging times. We could not be more excited to welcome students back to campus.
AMDG,
Greg VanSlambrook
Principal
