The Y wants to ensure all families are ready for a fun and safe summer. To do that, we're helping families become "Water-Ready" by developing water safety skills that help reduce the risk of drowning and build confidence and competence in and around water.

To celebrate 150 years of impact and the 5-year anniversary of our Aurora YMCA, we're partnering with the Wheatlands Metropolitan District and Boys and Girls Club of Metro Denver to offer 150 youth a FREE Community Swim Lesson.

The school day may end, but the adventure is just getting started. At the Y's Out of School Time program, kids have a safe, supportive place to learn, play and explore after the bell rings. From homework help and creative activities to active games and time with friends, every afternoon is filled with opportunities to grow and have fun. Registration for the upcoming school year is now open, so act now to make the Y your child's learn, play and explore place.

Our Out of School Time staff are making an impact beyond the classroom. We're proud to share that members of our OST team were featured in the Denver Afterschool Alliance "The Magic of OST" video, highlighting the meaningful connections, support and experiences that make out of school time programs so important for kids and families. Earlier this month, on May 10, fans celebrated World Baseball Softball Day. But did you know softball officially got its name thanks to the Denver Y exactly 100 years ago?

In 1926, Denver YMCA Physical Education Director Walter Hakanson proposed the name "softball" for the rapidly growing sport, then known by names like Kitten Ball and Mush Ball. His goal was to give the game a unified identity and help it grow beyond a playground pastime.

As we celebrate 150 years of our Y strengthening community, we're honored to be part of the history of a sport that continues to bring people together across generations and communities ⚾🥎
