College of Education wins 2022 AACTE Best Practice Award in Support of Global and International Perspectives

The American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education awarded UMSL the 2022 AACTE Best Practice Award in Support of Global and International Perspectives for its “Internationalizing Education at UMSL and Beyond” initiative on February 16.

 

Professor Jerome E. Morris named 2022 American Educational Research Association Fellow

Dr. Jerome E. Morris, the E. Desmond Lee Endowed Professor of Urban Education at UMSL, was named a 2022 American Educational Research Association Fellow. Dr. Morris has studied the impact of school reforms, as well as the links between race, social class and the geography of educational opportunities and Black communities in the South for more than 20 years.

The UMSL Succeed Program has been helping students with intellectual and developmental disabilities develop independent living and job skills while providing them with a college experience for 10 years. FOCUS St. Louis is honoring the program’s success with a What’s Right with the Region Award.

Counseling and Social Advocacy Center receives Jewish Federations of North America grant to support trauma-informed care

Dr. Emily Oliveira, assistant clinical professor and director of the Counseling and Social Advocacy Center at UMSL, will serve as the principal investigator on the project, titled “Innovations in Person-Centered, Trauma-Informed Supportive Services for Holocaust Survivors, Older Adults with a History of Trauma, and Their Family Caregivers.” 


COE OPPORTUNITIES

UMSL joining with St. Louis Fed to offer graduate certificate program in personal finance literacy education

UMSL and the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis have worked together to develop a graduate certificate program in personal finance for educators. Instruction begins with an in-person seminar June 6-10 at the St. Louis Fed’s downtown office and continues online throughout the academic year starting in September.

Our redesigned BTAP program is specifically for PK ‐ twelfth grade public or private school classroom teachers who are teaching in the first through fourth year of their career. Over a period of four weeks, participants will engage in four workshop topics:

Character Education for Emerging Leaders (CEEL) Now Accepting Applications


The Center for Character & Citizenship at the University of Missouri-St. Louis is now recruiting participants for the year-long academy known as Character Education for Emerging Leaders (CEEL). The CEEL Academy has been designed by Dr. Marvin W. Berkowitz and Dr. Melinda C. Bier to help school leaders understand their role in creating a school in which character development and servant leadership is a priority.

Executive Superintendency (EdS)


The EdS in Education Administration is a 30-hour, four-semester, cohort program that begins each summer semester. This degree program aligns with the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and the Missouri Leadership Standards for superintendent certification. Applications are still being accepted for Summer 2022.
