and Medicare-for-All

A new issue brief, “Further Illustrating the Benefits of Medicare-for-All,” highlights how the COVID-19 pandemic has shown the limitations in the current U.S. health care system. This brief outlines ways a universal Medicare-for-All approach would improve response to a pandemic through improvement in areas such as coordinated care, public health surveillance, efficiency, racial disparities, and poverty.

The brief is intended to illustrate to policy makers why it is important to move forward in building a more equitable health system from the perspective of front-line homeless health care providers. New Webinar Explores Challenges for Youth Experiencing Homelessness During COVID-19

Thursday, August 6 | 12-1 p.m. CT

For youth experiencing homelessness, it can be particularly challenging to socially acclimate to the current environment in a safe and healthy way. The School-Based Health Alliance and National HCH Council have invited SchoolHouse Connection to share their knowledge and facilitate discussions on promising practices for addressing and supporting youth through these challenging times.

This webinar will explore those challenges and provide discussions on topics including considerations for youth experiencing homelessness during the pandemic and racial justice movement, connectivity to health care, and school re-entry and access.

Upcoming Coffee Chat: "Building the Plane While Flying It: Health Care for the Homeless, Telehealth, and COVID-19"

Friday, August 7 | 12-1 p.m. CT

Prior to COVID-19, many HCH health centers utilized telehealth platforms in various creative and interesting ways. However, as the pandemic swept across the nation making in-person visits less safe, HCH health centers transitioned rapidly, in some instances overnight, to implementing telehealth.

Recently, Council staff conducted interviews with 17 HCH health centers to learn about their experiences initiating and implementing telehealth to engage people experiencing homelessness living in shelters, on the street, and in hotels. This Coffee Chat will feature representatives from three HCH health centers who will share how they are using backpack telehealth to treat people living on the street; how one agency engaged their Consumer Advisory Board to help improve telehealth offerings; and how telehealth may affect clients.
