We Are #RooReady for Fall Semester!

As this situation continues to evolve, we understand that some among us may face unique challenges related to health or caregiving. We ask that you stay in close communication with your professors and/or supervisor regarding any issues that may impact your ability to participate in class or at work.

Each of us should do our part to minimize risk while simultaneously working to promote the UMKC Culture of Care during this time. Each of us has a responsibility to ensure that discrimination, shunning and bullying that sometimes accompany an outbreak never occur at UMKC.

Learn more about the UMKC response to the global COVID-19 pandemic and get the latest updates and safety information from the CDC.

UMKC has a variety of online courses. They are Online Asynchronous, Online Synchronous, and Blended. Here are the definitions the University Registrar established for the different types of instruction:
Asynchronous (OA)- The course has no required real-time (synchronous) interactions between instructor and students. Teaching and learning activities occur online through the use of a variety of eLearning technologies and resources, and the course is characterized by regular and substantive asynchronous online interactions between course instructor and course participants. There are defined deadlines for completion of assignments and other course related activities.
Synchronous (OS)- The course has required real-time (synchronous) interactions between instructor and students, usually through the use of online conferencing tools (Zoom or Teams). Teaching and learning activities occur online through the use of a variety of eLearning technologies and resources. The course is characterized by regular and substantive online interactions between course instructor and course participants which occur both synchronously and asynchronously. There are defined deadlines for completion of assignments and other course related activities.
Blended (B)- Participants of a Blended course meet five or more times on-campus. The remainder of the course occurs online learning through activities and interactions using a variety of eLearning technologies and resources. These activities can occur in real-time (synchronously) or asynchronously. There are defined deadlines for completion of assignments and other course related activities.

Emergency Financial Resources

In an emergency or crisis situation, UMKC aims to be a lifeline for its students in need. These resources can help students who have encountered unexpected financial obstacles to complete their academic requirements without major interruption.
Short-term Emergency loans
UMKC offers Short-term Emergency Loans for students to help cover expenses during unexpected or emergency circumstances. These loans must be paid off by the end of the semester in which they are borrowed. For eligibility requirements and restrictions, view our Short-term Loan Policy. To apply or get more information, contact the Financial Aid and Scholarships Office at finaid@umkc.edu or 816-235-1154.
Kangaroo Food Pantry
The Kangaroo Food Pantry is an on-campus resource that provides assistance to members of the UMKC community dealing with food insecurity. In addition to filling physical food needs, the pantry also organizes the Kangaroo Pantry Meal Donation Program.

RooLabs Online!

The RooLabs Online portal provides real time information regarding capacities of student computing labs located on campus, how many machines are currently in use in each lab, and provides free remote access to lab software. You can plan ahead before making a trip to a lab, or simply connect to the lab from the convenience of your own device. Connecting remotely to a lab in RooLabs Online will be a similar experience to using an on-campus lab. If you have access to a general lab or departmental lab on-campus that participates in RooLabs Online, you can remotely access ALL of the same software via RooLabs Online.
Preview the entire catalog of lab software accessible from RooLabs Online, connect now to see which on-campus labs participate in RooLabs Online, or reveiw the RooLabs Online frequently asked questions page for more information.
