Hi! My name is Tamilore Ikomi, I am from Lagos, Nigeria and went to school in England and Vermont before coming to GWU. I am currently a sophomore studying Finance with a minor in Economics. The IMPACT team is a great place to be for me and I am excited to help faculty and staff in any way possible.
Tami will be helping with accessibility, Blackboard courses and updating our website. He works in our studio at 2000 Pennsylvania Ave on Wednesdays, so come by and say “Hello.”

Reminder: Storage Limits for GW SMHS’s Web Conferencing Tools |
GW IT is spending a lot on storage for our web conferencing platforms and so is now requiring all of us to delete or move older recordings. As of January 1st, recordings stored on Zoom, Blackboard Collaborate, Webex, and MS Teams will be saved for 180 days, after which they will be moved to the meeting host's Trash folder for 30 days before being permanently deleted.
SMHS faculty are encouraged to use Panopto for course-related recordings and Box for non-course related recordings, while students and staff are encouraged to use Box. For assistance or questions, contact us at hsptech@gwu.edu.

Constrained Choice Activities: A Simple Way to Improve Critical Thinking |
Looking to inspire more critical thinking in your classes without necessarily taking a lot more time? A recent article from EDUCAUSE about constrained choice activities is well worth the 8 minute read. Trying to get learners to apply theoretical knowledge to messy real-world problems and practice making reasonable decisions is critical to our programs. One way to do this is using “constrained choice activities” which are “simply questions with precisely designed limited options.” You might be thinking, “that sounds like multiple choice”. The difference is that both the question and choices are engineered to provoke productive discussion.

Instagram Automatic Captions |
|
|
Do you scroll social media with your sound off? Well, so do your followers. Captions will expand the reach of your message. If you post to Instagram to promote your program or share the student experience, the social media app has a handy caption feature that is easy to use. When posting a video, click on the square sticker button. You’ll see an option to add captions. Instagram will automatically transcribe and add captions to your video. Captions are important for accessibility but they also help viewers engage with your video if they don’t have sound turned on. Note: only available in the US.
