This year's case explores how traditional Jewish legal approaches to privacy can be applied to modern day social media platforms, especially around questions of data privacy. In the midst of this discussion about danger and animals, the Mishnah reminds us to look in the mirror every once in a while as if to say, “We humans are the ultimate version of the goring ox.” Though unlike the animal, this classification is communal; it rests on us all regardless of our individual habits and proclivities.... What makes us human is our ability to recognize and ultimately transcend the things we carry. And that is a lifelong journey of neither tractor nor technology, but of tenderness and tolerance.

Join Hebrew College's Miller Center for Interreligious Learning & Leadership on February 28, in person or on Zoom, for a book launch discussing two recent publications: With the Best of Intentions: Interreligious Missteps and Mistakes, and Pluralism in Practice: Case Studies of Leadership in a Religiously Diverse America. Published by Orbis Books, each volume presents a series of case studies to explore interfaith relations.

Kavanah in 60: Adar I

Why Adar I and Adar II? In order to sync Judaism's lunar calendar with the agricultural and solar calendar so that Passover is celebrated in the spring as commanded in Exodus, the rabbis of the 4th Century CE, developed a calendar to make seven out of every 19 years a leap year. In a Jewish leap year, Adar is counted twice. Learn more about Adar, the month of joy, in HC rabbinical student Alex Goldfarb's Kavanah in 60.
