Be More Counties Secure Active Living Workshop Seed Money Funding
|
|
|
The Tennessee Department of Health (TDH) recently awarded funding to five Be More counties—Clay, Crockett, Decatur, Hancock, and Henderson—in collaboration with their respective local governments.
These counties were eligible to apply after completing the TDH Active Living Workshop, facilitated by TDH Community Coordinators in partnership with Be More county steering committees. The workshop covered principles of a healthy built environment, conducted a walk audit, engaged in asset mapping, and developed an action plan. Completion of this process served as a prerequisite for the TDH Active Living Workshop Seed Funding application.
We appreciate the leadership of the TDH Coordinators and the active participation of community members, whose contributions were essential to completing the assessments.

Improving Access to Drinking Water and Physical Activity |
Two new water fountains have been delivered—one installed at the Crockett County Senior Center and another at the Family Resource Center. These installations address the previous lack of functional drinking water and promote increased access to safe, convenient hydration for community members.
Pickleball programming has also launched at the Family Resource Center, with two instructional sessions completed and plans for regular community play underway. Supported by a West TN Pickleball Ambassador, the initiative encourages physical activity through gym improvements, court layout, and small-group instruction.

Healthy Vending Initiative |
Alamo City School, in collaboration with its Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO), has installed a cold vending machine to increase access to USDA-compliant healthy snacks and beverages, such as yogurt, cheese, and fruit. Proceeds from sales will be reinvested to replenish inventory and support PTO initiatives throughout the school year.
