#stayservetransform

Unsure about how to serve while on quarantine? Wondering about how to have your stay-at-home service approved? Discovery's #StayServeTransform page has all the information students need and is being updated weekly.
Valor students continue to serve from home, and that service has taken on many shapes, sizes and colors. Sydney J. is finding the power of service through prayer:
"Over the past couple weeks, I have had the opportunity to participate in a weekly prayer meeting with members from our church. I have been able to join in the community with these fellow prayer warriors and offer my prayers to them. God is giving me a new sense of the power of prayer and helping me to be bold in how I pray!"

A Note from a Mentor

From Rochelle Miller, Student Experience Coordinator
What an amazing privilege it has been for me this year to be an adult mentor on our Sources of Strength team. Each time I’m around the students who are a part of this special group, I feel like God is blessing my socks right off!
These students love the Lord and they love their peers. They have worked very hard this year rolling out school-wide initiatives in order to make sure that every student at Valor knows that there is hope and there is help nearby. Being a part of this team has been incredibly life-giving to me.
One of the initiatives that the Sources of Strength team has taken on right now is to provide peer devotionals twice a week for the next couple of weeks until school is over. The devotion schedule is as follows, and we would love all students to join and be blessed. Use this link to watch the devotionals live.
  • Thursday, 4/30, 3:30-3:45 pm
  • Tuesday, 5/5, 12:00-12:15 pm
  • Thursday, 5/7, 3:30-3:45 pm
  • Tuesday, 5/12, 12:00-12:15 pm
  • Thursday, 5/14, 3:30-3:45 pm
Student Caden Potter will be giving his devotional next Tuesday, May 5, and shares what he's been learning in recent weeks.
“I signed up for the devotionals because I know how weird this time has been for all of us, and I want to encourage people with God's word. Although this time feels pretty boring for everybody, God is giving us a huge opportunity to make changes in our lives that will last forever, and one of those changes we can make is our intentionality with our relationship with God.
What better opportunity do we get than 4-5 weeks at home to spend growing closer with God? I am doing my devotional on change and how it can help us once this pandemic is over. I am speaking on Psalm 91, the meaning of the number 40, and sharing some personal growth and change I have experienced in the past month or so.”

MID-WEEK DEVOTIONAL FROM PASTOR JIM

Until Our Tears Are Gone

I think we all have experience with tears in one way or another, whether they are great tears of joy when something special happens in our lives or tears of sadness and pain over tragedy or disappointment in life.
My guess is that in these days we vacillate between the tears of joy and sadness quite a bit.

Discussion Questions

  • In the past few weeks, when have you had tears of joy or sorrow? Were you able to fully process the cause?
  • Read John 16:16-22. How does this change or reinforce your view on what it means to shed tears?
The LORD bless you and keep you;
the LORD make his face shine on you and be gracious to you;
the LORD turn his face toward you and give you peace.
