A Better Tomorrow: Science and Technology’s Essential Purpose |

Join Dr. Arati Prabhakar, Assistant to President Biden for Science and Technology and Director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, for her talk titled “A Better Tomorrow: Science and Technology’s Essential Purpose.”
Dr. Prabhakar will explore how we can use today’s tremendous advances in science and technology to build the future we all aspire to. She will guide us through recent significant progress and vital priorities ahead—from addressing climate change and advancing healthcare to navigating the transformative AI revolution and beyond.

Reminder: Upcoming Deadlines for Intramural Funding Programs |
The Office of the Vice Provost for Research (OVPR) sponsors various intramural funding opportunities to support research and scholarship at GW. Faculty from all disciplines are encouraged to review the following opportunities to see how the funding programs can support their scholarly projects. These programs are now accepting applications for funding in fiscal year 2026 (FY26):

- University Facilitating Fund (UFF)
Fosters the creation of new research projects and scholarly activities that encourage application to externally funded opportunities, bring external recognition to the principal investigator and university and/or demonstrate significant impact to the field to which it belongs.
UFF application deadline: Tuesday, January 14, 2025 - Cross-Disciplinary Research Fund (CDRF)
Supports the establishment of collaborative research partnerships within research centers and institutes or between two or more diverse disciplines that encourage applications to externally funded opportunities.
CDRF application deadline: Wednesday, January 15, 2025 - Humanities Facilitating Fund (HFF)
Provides funding that promotes the generation of original scholarship by faculty in the humanities.
HFF application deadline: Thursday, January 16, 2025

GW New Venture Competition Applications Open Now

Do you have a creative idea, business, startup, or social enterprise? Compete in the GW New Venture Competition (NVC) for the chance to win cash and in-kind prizes to help bring your vision to life! The GW NVC offers students, faculty, staff, and alumni a unique, real-world learning experience in entrepreneurship. The GW community is encouraged to apply—whether you’re refining a business or starting with an idea, there’s a relevant track of the competition for you. Submissions are due by 11:59 PM ET on Sunday, February 9, 2025. Learn how to apply and start your NVC application.

| SAVE THE DATE: GW InnovationFest 2025 |
The Office of the Vice Provost for Research is excited to announce a university-wide event celebrating research and scholarship at GW. InnovationFest: Revolutionary Research and Creativity for a Greater World will be held on Thursday, May 1, 2025. The event will highlight groundbreaking scholarship and creative pursuits across all schools and disciplines. Guests will include the GW community as well as external partners from industry, academia, government and not-for-profit organizations.
To ensure an inclusive and successful event, OVPR invites input and nominations for programming that displays GW's most impactful projects. InnovationFest is envisioned to include hands-on demonstrations, poster presentations, panels, performances, art displays, book talks, and more. OVPR will share additional details as they become available. Contact innovationfest@gwu.edu with feedback and suggestions.

Are you looking to enhance your understanding of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) grant writing process and explore funding opportunities tailored to your field? Join us on Wednesday, January 15, 2025 from 10:30 AM–12:00 PM for an overview of NIH structure, funding mechanisms, and review policies. Learn how to prepare a competitive proposal from concept to resubmission, and how to navigate the NIH resources to help you excel. Additional information on funding opportunities in climate and health will be explored by the Research and Engagement for Action in Climate and Health (REACH) Center. This event is co-sponsored by the Office of the Vice Provost for Research, the Office of Research Excellence at the GW School of Public Health and the REACH Center.
