In 2024, Stanford Redwood City undertook a series of projects that moved the campus closer towards Stanford's Zero Waste goals. Here are some of them:
Currently piloted in Academy Hall, this is a concentrated soap pod that dissolves in water. This product uses less plastic and cardboard and will decrease our carbon footprint in terms of packaging and transport emissions.
A refillable wipe system using plant-based wipes, Biom will reduce our carbon footprint in terms of packaging and shipping. It is a more sustainable alternative to Clorox and will soon be used across campus.
Service by Medallion and SRWC Operations have partnered to provide our custodial crew with a comprehensive 30-hour training program focused on climate change, waste management, resource conservation, and more. This initiative equips our team with the knowledge and skills to support a more sustainable campus.
| Restroom trash bin liners |
To minimize plastic waste across campus, restroom trash bins near paper towel dispensers no longer use liners. Since paper towels are biodegradable, the waste is emptied directly into compost, reducing costs, streamlining maintenance, and supporting our sustainability efforts.

Stanford Medicine construction-related impacts |
Stanford Redwood City is supporting Stanford Medicine's construction project adjacent to the current Outpatient Center on Broadway. Parking in the Broadway Lot will be limited as contractors park their vehicles between 6:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Construction may take place outside of these hours. Commuters and visitors are encouraged to park in the Barron Garage at 2855 Bay Road going forward.
Demolition activity at the construction project is likely to continue until March 14. The building shells have been fully knocked down, but the foundations/slabs remain, and they are in-process of being removed, causing intrepid loud noise and/or vibrations. We thank you for your patience during this time. For more information, go here.
