Several hundred theater-goers and patrons of the arts gathered on a quintessential summer evening this July to celebrate the Mahaiwe, the arts, and community. Together we raised $388,000 in Gala donations and ticket sales, and another $159,000 from a paddle raise auction. These funds ensure the Mahaiwe's continued mission in the Berkshires, delivering high quality, year-round performing arts in the heart of Great Barrington – with an added boost for the soon-to-open Indigo Room.

Patricia Pin, Advancement Officer
Patricia Pin received an MFA in creative writing and worked as the Programs Director at The Mount, author Edith Wharton’s home, a National Historic Landmark and literary center in the Berkshires. In partnership with the Straw Dog Writers Guild, where she served as the Executive Consulting Director and is currently the WriteAngles Conference volunteer committee chair, Pin helped establish an Emerging Writers Residency at The Mount, now in its fifth year. She is excited to join the staff and community of the Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center in the role of Advancement Officer.

In general fundraising news, the Mahaiwe received a grant from Preservation Massachusetts as part of our multi-year roof and upper exterior restoration project. The funds enabled us to restore the iconic 1930s marquee glass, with help from Martino Glass, Lenox Glass & Door, and LP Adams.
We are also excited to renew our partnership with the New England Foundation for the Arts through a prestigious New England State Touring (NEST) grant for the Silkroad Ensemble featuring Wu Man: American Railroad (November 8) production and educational programs. The NEST program is made possible with funding from the National Endowment for the Arts Regional Touring Program and the six New England state arts agencies.
The Mahaiwe is honored to have been invited to take part in Highland Street Foundation’s August Adventures, with generous support for a free performance of Bill Blagg’s Family Magic! (August 4) on the historic stage.
And, we are thankful to the Geoffrey C. Hughes Foundation for renewing its generous support for Mahaiwe’s year-round operations and programming.

Arts Admins are Artists, Too

Colleagues cross paths every day here at the Mahaiwe's administrative offices. But outside the office, our creative staff is also susceptible to overlapping, as was the case at the Eastover Contemporary Art Center's juried show in Lenox this past June. Associate General Manager Michael Beuth received an honorable mention in the 3-D Art category for his piece The Corner Store, while Education & Community Engagement Manager Natalia Bernal performed songs from her new jazz record En Diablada during the reception.
Bernal also received attention for her album from NPR Music's alt.latino program!

"I'm beyond psyched that Galactic is coming to the Berkshires. I saw them perform at a small venue years ago and fell in love with their music. So much so, that I've changed my vacation plans for the chance to see them live on the Mahiawe stage. I'm sure that many people will be dancing in the aisles, myself included!"

"Come out for a night of non-stop laughs with comedian Josh Blue. The Mahaiwe is excited to partner again with our neighbors at Community Access to the Arts (CATA) during this program."

"Visually and sonically stimulating, the Silk Road Ensemble evokes something magical in envisioning the historical trading route – in this tour, the intercontinental railroad – where culture, food, technologies, and thankfully, music were exchanged and shared. Don't miss this show!"
