| Letter from our 2023 President | |
I am honored and excited to serve as the incoming President of the Nashville Academy of Medicine. I have been a member of NAM for nearly 30 years, and have seen the influence we as physicians have in promoting good health, from the individual patient in our offices to the halls of the State Assembly.
As a member of NAM, physicians will find support for the practice of patient-centered medicine. It is more important than ever that physicians speak with one voice as we address outside intrusions into the physician – patient relationship. We come together as colleagues to defend ourselves, and our patients’ best interests, against the inappropriate influence of insurance, government and pharmaceutical industries.
As one of the oldest medical societies in America, we uphold and advocate for the highest standards of professionalism, medical practice and ethical conduct. We support doctors with education, leadership training, business/practice resources, peer-to-peer networking and other programs designed to help doctors grow personally and professionally. We take our responsibility to educate and influence lawmakers very seriously.
At NAM, we partner with the Medical Foundation of Nashville to improve access to excellent healthcare for those who are uninsured in the community.
We welcome all members to get involved, and join us in our ongoing activities. We have made new friendships and partnerships in reaching common goals. We invite non-members to join the 2,300 + members of the Academy in our mission to improve physician health, practice health and the health of our community.
Sincerely,
Michael Beckham, MD, FACP

- Day on the Hill - March 7
TMA and NAM's annual lobby day in downtown Nashville is Tuesday, March 7. This day focuses on connecting physicians directly with lawmakers so you can be advocates for your patients and discuss major issues affecting the medical profession in Tennessee. Legislative session began this week, and TMA is focused on these five priorities for 2023. The event is free for all NAM and TMA physician members, medical office staff, and healthcare administrators. Please register online if you plan to attend, and NAM staff will communicate with you leading up to the event with more details and schedules.
- TMA House of Delegates - April 15
The 188th TMA House of Delegates and Annual Meeting will be held in Franklin on Saturday, April 15. There may be limited spots available to participate on behalf of NAM. If you are interested in serving as an alternate delegate and potentially a delegate on behalf of NAM, email Rebecca Leslie at rleslie@nashvillemedicine.org.
