Nutrition Program Empowers Caregivers to Seek Healthy Habits |
FoodWIse Extension Brown County in collaboration with Casa ALBA Melanie provides nutrition education programming for Hispanic caregivers, where participants learn about healthy eating habits, understand labels and ingredients, and best practices for healthy living to empower caregivers to seek healthy habits for their families.
The Casa ALBA Melanie youth training program is a physical activity program for youth under 18 to 7 years old. The caregivers will bring their children to the practice. While waiting for their children, FoodWIse engages with them by providing nutrition lessons. FoodWIse provided three nutrition lessons for caregivers: Setting the Stage for Healthy Habits, Understanding Labels and Ingredients, and Best Practices for Healthy Living. One of the groups' most significant "aha moment" was recognizing whole grains and the positive impact they have on our digestion and the vitamins and minerals they provide. This collaboration is significant since engagement is multilevel. Not only are children engaged in well-being activities, but their families are supporting behavioral change to make healthy choice the easy choice.
