Linda was designated as the White House Champion of Change and is the Executive Director of the Arab American Association of New York. We'll literally be dancing in the street! Join Tufts Hillel and come celebrate Simchat Torah with the whole Boston Jewish community at Tremont Street Shul in Cambridge. Meet at Hillel and choose to walk or take public transportation to the biggest Simchat Torah celebration in the Boston area. 
Humanist Chaplaincy Meet and Greet

Walker Bristol, A14, joins the Chaplaincy staff this year as the first Humanist in Residence. Previously an active member of religious and Humanist life on campus as a student, Walker is now pursuing a Master of Divinity at Harvard Divinity School. He has previously worked with the Humanist Community at Harvard and the Foundation Beyond Belief, and co-edited the atheist interfaith engagement blog NonProphet Status as well as contributed to the Huffington Post Religion. Join Walker and University Chaplain, Greg McGonigle, for a conversation surrounding the model of Humanist chaplaincy they'll be building in the coming year, and exploring what it means to be seeking chaplaincy resources outside of organized religion in modern day America. Lunch will be served and there will be an opportunity both for Q&A with Walker and Greg as well as a meet and greet after the event. All are welcome to attend. Please RSVP here. 
Parents' Weekend Mass

All are welcome to join us for Parents’ Weekend Mass. We have morning Mass twice a year at Tufts, once for Parents Weekend and once for Easter Morning. Come experience Goddard Chapel in the morning, when the sun streams through our beautiful stained glass windows. Come experience our Catholic Community at Tufts. All are welcome to stay for refreshments and as always, come as you are. Our choir practices and hour before Mass and any visitors who are interested in singing with us this Sunday, please come by at 10:00 am. Safe traveling and we hope to cross paths with you this weekend.

HEART Safe Space Reproductive Health Program for Muslim Women

The training will be facilitated by Nadiah Mohajir and Sameera Qureshi (Tufts grad). This is a very unique opportunity to receive training in how to facilitate safe spaces for Muslim women and girls around questions about sexual health. It is particularly important for women who are leaders and emerging leaders in our communities to have these competencies. Several area MSAs have joined together to host.College/university women from the greater Boston are welcome. There will be light refreshments. Guy Mendilow Ensemble Concert: Tales from the Forgotten Kingdom

Recalling the forgotten kingdom of medieval Spain’s convivenica period marked by interfaith and multicultural intersection, the Guy Mendilow Ensemble beautifully recasts the traditional Spanish-Jewish music known as Ladino. This music incorporates elements from Spain, North Africa, the Middle East, and Eastern Europe with warm harmonies and spellbinding rhythms through songs and legends of sailors and love lost at sea, fantastic dreams, and the intrigue of kings and queens. Dharma Study - Mindfulness, Reflections, and Discussions

Will begin with a few moments of silence/mindfulness meditation. Passages/Readings will be selected from across Buddhist literature (ancient Pali/Sanskrit to modern Zen) and beyond. Discussions will focus on reflecting own life through these readings - how to make use of the insights from these texts to daily life. Anybody and everybody is welcome. No prior experience required. Tea will be available.

New England Lutheran Campus Ministry Retreat
October 17-18, University Lutheran Church, Cambridge, MA
Students from several New England universities will gather at University Lutheran, Cambridge, for an overnight retreat of fun, fellowship, and reflection framed by the concept of "home." Home base for the retreat will be Harvard Square Homeless Shelter (that is housed at UniLu) which is in a break before reopening on November 1. Being at home, being displaced and finding shelter will be explored through different portals. Undergrads and graduate students are welcome. Opening Reception of Truth Telling: Art in Search of Social Justice

In May, 2014, the Nave Gallery marked its 10 year anniversary at The Clarendon Hill Presbyterian Church. Their support through the years has allowed the Nave to show and support the work of hundreds of artists, while reinforcing our mutual commitment to our strengthening our community through art activism. Truth Telling: Art in Search of Social Justice is a celebration of this partnership and an assertion that art is a vehicle through which conversations on social change can be held, compelling people to action. Challenging the Church: Postcolonial Practice of Ministry

Join us for this international conference of students, scholars, and pastoral leaders as we consider the future of postcolonial ministry across the globe. Participants will rethink the practice of ministry as Christian Society has become increasingly pluralistic. Panelists will address the themes of worship, interfaith collaboration, and pastoral leadership, and participants will learn practical approaches to renew and rejuvenate the church and their ministries.

PrEP and PEP and the State of HIV Prevention: A Conversation with Carl Sciortino

Recent advancements in pre-exposure and post-exposure prophylaxis have changed the way we think about safer sex and HIV prevention. The Centers for Disease Control and the World Health Organization have both endorsed Truvada (PrEP) for those at higher risk of HIV, but debates about the regimen are often fueled by misinformation. Join us for a vital community conversation with Tufts alumnus Carl Sciortino, the Executive Director of AIDS Action Committee, as we discuss address some of the questions people still have about PrEP and PEP: How do they work? Who should take them? What do they mean for the communities most impacted by HIV/AIDS?

Want to be a leader for social change? Be a Tisch Scholar! In this multi-year leadership program, you will engage in meaningful work in the community and learn the critical knowledge and skills needed to be a leader for civic engagement and a catalyst for change. Come to an info session for more about the program and to hear from current Tisch Scholars. Applications (freshman and sophomores are eligible to apply) are due October 15, 2014. Tisch Fund for Civic Engagement
The Tisch Fund for Civic Engagement welcomes requests for funding of events, projects, and programs with a clear connection to active citizenship. Funding will be considered for student groups and organizations, or individual students who plan to engage other students in their work. Priority will be given to work in communities beyond the internal campus. Separate streams of funding are reserved for undergraduates and graduate or professional school students. Individual applicants may apply for up to $500 in funding, and groups may apply for up to $1000 in funding. Applications are rolling and will be accepted until all funds have been dispersed. 2015 Wendell Phillips Award
Application Deadline: October 27, 2014
The Wendell Phillips Memorial Scholarship is one of two prize scholarships (the other being assigned to Harvard University), which were established in 1896 by the Wendell Phillips Memorial Fund Association in honor of Boston’s great preacher and orator. The award is given annually to the junior or senior who has best demonstrated both marked ability as a speaker and a high sense of public responsibility. The recipient of the award receives a cash prize and traditionally is selected as the only student speaker at the Baccalaureate Ceremony in May. Nominees will be invited to apply and following a review of finalists, the Committee on Student Life will select this year’s recipient in March 2015. The 2015 Parliament of the World’s Religions - Deadline: November 1, 2014
This event will take place October 15 - 19, 2015 at the Salt Palace Convention Center, Salt Lake City, Utah, USA. Parliament is the oldest, the largest, and the most inclusive gathering of people of all faith and traditions. The first Parliament took place in 1893. Since, this historic event has taken place in Chicago, USA  • Cape Town, South Africa  • Barcelona, Spain  • Melbourne, Australia - and now in Salt Lake City, Utah! Register now for only $79, after November 30, 2014 the price will increase to $550. The Office of Residential Life & Learning, is looking to hire Resident Assistants for 2015-2016
Applications are due Tuesday, November 25th. Requirements include: (enthusiasm, strong interpersonal, communication, leadership skills, and cumulative GPA of 2.5. Currently not on any form of academic and/or disciplinary probation. 2015 Dharma Tour to Thailand
Join our intergenerational contemplative learning community for a 15-day transformative travel experience! The tour offers firsthand experience of Buddhist customs, principles, and practice in a predominantly Buddhist culture. Our tour group will be limited to 30 participants and will travel throughout Thailand as a contemplative learning community. Through study, practice, service, and recreational activities, we will enter into a direct experiential relationship with ourselves, with others in our traveling group, and with Thais and their Buddhist way of life. Association for College and University Religious Affairs Annual Meeting

The Tufts University Chaplaincy is honored to be hosting the Annual Meeting of the Association for College and University Religious Affairs (ACURA) from Sunday, October 26 through Tuesday, October 28, 2014. ACURA is a national collegium of higher education chaplains and deans and directors of religious and spiritual life. It is an interfaith association that includes representatives of some 30 institutions and is open to all who are employed or appointed by universities and colleges to serve in these roles. 

The meeting will start with dinner on October 26 and conclude after dinner on October 28. The theme of the meeting is "Borders, Frontiers, and Intersections in Higher Education Spiritual Life." We will focus on emerging areas of our work including: the spiritual but not religious, active citizenship and internationalism in a changing world, Humanism, and theological education for diverse chaplaincies. We will also have an opportunity to explore some of the history and culture of the Boston area, such as the Freedom Trail, the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum, and Concord sites such as the North Bridge, the Old Manse, and Walden Pond. It should be foliage season, which makes New England especially beautiful.
