Welcome from Hockaday Admissions

Good afternoon, I want to personally welcome you and your family as you explore admissions at Hockaday. Because you have expressed interest in Hockaday, every other Thursday you will find a newsletter in your inbox from The Office of Admission. We want to share a glimpse of daily life at Hockaday, highlight some of the accomplishments of our girls and faculty, and remind you of upcoming admission events and deadlines.
Every day at Hockaday is exciting as we watch our girls explore, create and achieve in our classrooms and labs, on our fields and stages and in the Dallas community. In the past week alone, our girls have thoughtfully aided in Hurricane relief efforts, spent time implementing new Mindfulness techniques, competed in athletic tournaments, auditioned for fall plays and musicals, cheered the sixteen seniors who were named National Merit Semi-finalists and celebrated at “Fun Day”!
We encourage you to visit our campus this fall or winter so that you can experience Hockaday first-hand. Please visit our website, www.hockaday.org, for school news and admission information and events. We look forward to getting to know you and your family.
Warmly,
Maryanna Phipps
Director of Admission and Enrollment Management

Mindfulness and Social Emotional Learning Initiative Launches

Hockaday has invited two special guests to Hockaday this week to help officially launch the Lower School Mindfulness and Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Initiative being implemented in collaboration with the Dallas Yoga Center (DYC). The launch will feature Dr. Christopher Willard and Dr. Julia Evans. Dr. Christopher Willard, (PsyD) is an international speaker, Harvard Medical School lecturer on mindfulness and psychology, and renowned author of many books including Growing Up Mindful (2016) and, the soon to be released, Raising Resilience (2017).
He currently serves on the board of directors at the Institute for Meditation and Psychotherapy and is the President of the Mindfulness in Education Network. During the event, Dr. Willard will share information about what mindfulness and SEL are and their proven benefits in a school setting. These benefits include healthier emotional well-being, greater focus, and reduced stress. Participants will learn about the neuroscience supporting mindfulness and how it strengthens the “executive decision-making” area of the brain and lessens the influence of the “fight or flight” response.  READ MORE
