New COVID Coffee Chat: Continuity of Care for Residents in Permanent Supportive Housing

During the COVID -19 pandemic it can become increasingly challenging to deliver and maintain continuity of care for individuals in permanent supportive housing. Join our latest webinar to discuss some of those challenges and hear solutions on how best to address equitable and accessible health care for these individuals.

Our panelists will include representatives from the Corporation for Supportive Housing, frontline housing providers that direct permanent supportive housing programs, and a health center that provides homeless housing services.

As the COVID-19 crisis evolves, so, too, are the resources and research emerging for Health Care for the Homeless. Here are a couple of the latest helpful tools we've collected in our COVID-19 Resources:

"COVID-19, Stimulant Use, and Harm Reduction:" The Harm Reduction Coalition and Higher Ground Harm Reduction collaborated with Vital Strategies on this guide complementing the Council's own recent issue brief.

"Hotel-Hospital COVID-19 Response Playbook:" From the American Hotel & Lodging Association, this resource explores best practices for utilizing hotels as alternative care sites.

Media Spotlight: Addressing the COVID-19 "Time Bomb" in Americans Without Homes Through Medical Respite Care

Medical respite care is a critical component of the COVID-19 response for patients without homes, and Reuters recently relied on Council expertise in a new story on how respite programs are filling a crucial gap in overwhelmed American health care systems in the wake of the pandemic.

Additionally, a new article in Forbes also drew on Council research to explore "COVID-19 Testing In Homeless Shelters: Care, Compassion And Combatting Structural Inequalities." The Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health's latest "Public Health on Call" podcast addresses the challenges facing those without homes during COVID-19 and how they and their caregivers are responding in this unprecedented time.

This episode features staff from Council Organizational Member Health Care for the Homeless Baltimore and our own Senior Director of Policy Barbara DiPietro as they talk about how COVID-19 is impacting people experiencing homelessness in Baltimore and across the U.S.
