FGNA Inter-region Library Nook |
As an FGNA member you can borrow from any region library. If you missed the November Guild News issue in which the “Library Nook” presented instructions for using the FGNA Libraries System website, including requesting materials from any region library, click here to access a document with this information.
Curious about how many different individuals’ or organizations’ products are in the FGNA region libraries and their titles, I began analyzing the inventory of all libraries’ materials on the FGNA Interregion Library System Website. Moshe Feldenkrais’ works are the most numerous - 103 different titles and a total of 291 items. FGNA is second - 77 different titles and 126 items. Ruthy Alon is third - 32 different titles and 41 items. Curious to know what they are? Click here. Why not considering borrowing one of them for your personal and professional learning? Â

In November, the FGNA Board of Directors met over 4 days for the Annual Face to Face (F2F). In keeping with one of its pillars for the Guild to remain financially sustainable, the Board met via Zoom this year. At the F2F the Board received reports from the many different FGNA committees, some that work in collaboration with Virtual and others that are manned solely by members who volunteer their time and energy to keep the Guild functioning and improving. The committees included the Certification/Graduation, Communications, Conference, CORR, Elections , Government Relations, IFF, Membership, NATAB, Nominating, Policy, Service Marks, and Website. The reports included the committee’s goals for the year, how they accomplished them, results of membership surveys, Committee Playbooks, and what the committee’s goals and recommendations are for next year. The Board reviewed budgets, policy and voted on changes that will assist to make our Guild more efficient and effective in serving its membership and the public.
If you have questions, concerns, would like more details or would like to serve on a committee you can contact the different committee chairs on the members only website.

At the November 10th meeting, regional representatives covered a variety of topics. Notably, the New York Region is preparing to vote on a slate of new officers. Preparations for the November 20th meeting between CORR and the FGNA Board were discussed, alongside details of the proposed 2025 CORR budget and potential workshops. Updates from the Membership Committee highlighted their progress in resolving glitches with the online membership renewal process. Representatives also celebrated the success of the Moti Nativ workshop held earlier in the month, which was both educational and financially responsible. The representatives briefly discussed topics related to the regional librarians’ committee work on the future of libraries. Additionally, CORR reviewed the Newsletter Editor Role Description and initiated a discussion on the CORR Guidelines for Newsletter Content.

The Ethics Committee held a Zoom Café on September 19, to discuss The Educated Heart, by Laura Allen and Nina McIntosh. This book is a wonderful resource for teachers of the Feldenkrais Method® of somatic education, in understanding and navigating complex ethical boundaries and professional principles. Listen to the recording here.
The Educated Heart is readily available for purchase online. Search for the 5th edition, which contains new content covering boundary issues related to the Internet.

Looking back at 2024:Â
It’s been a good year for our Government Relations program, with all current exemptions intact, thanks to our volunteers and allies:Â
In Massachusetts, bills to remove exemptions and require licensure for alternative healing therapies died in committee for the second time.
In Georgia, a sneaky attempt to remove exemptions by amending an unrelated bill was discovered and quickly quashed.Â
Looking forward to 2025:
At the Federation of Therapeutic Massage, Bodywork and Somatic Practice Organizations annual meeting in April, FGNA will participate in training led by a consultant, to explore how the FedMBS member organizations can work cooperatively to increase visibility at the national level, in the whole person health arena.
We’ll be holding Zoom CafĂ©s where you can learn more about our Government Relations program, and how you can participate in the ongoing work to protect our right to practice.Â
If you have any questions, or would like to volunteer in this area, please contact Government Relations Administrator Andrea Wiener: andrea.wiener@feldenkraisguild.com.
