Student Spotlight

UMAYR SHAIKH '17
Loves about Brebeuf:
What I love about Brebeuf more than anything is the people.  I can always count on my peers to brighten my day and make me feel energized and invigorated when I come to school.  The people here are unlike people anywhere else, and I am truly grateful for the opportunity and privilege to be in the company of Brebeuf people, both students and faculty alike.
Favorite Class:
My favorite class right now would have to be Moral Decision Making with Mr. Connelly.  It provides a great catalyst for my mind to flow and think deep, profound thoughts that I would not normally be in an ideal environment for. It is a great way to unwind while at the same time getting spiritual experience that will benefit me for a lifetime.
Future Plans:
My goal is to go to Medical School and do a residency in Orthopedics - and ideally, stay in Indiana close to family.
Teams & Co-Curriculars:

Varsity Swimming at Brebeuf
WTSC Club Swimming
Speech and Debate
Founder and President, Muslim Student Union
Pre-Med Club
Piano for 11 years
National Honor Society
Math Club
Anime Club
Student Council
Admissions Ambassador
Presidential Ambassador
Al-Huda Sunday School
Volunteer for JMF Fitness

Random Fact:
I am ambidextrous, which is great because I can utilize either of my hands effectively without much effort on either one.  It comes in handy when I only have one free hand.
Is Brebeuf as academically rigorous as they say?
I would say it is, but only if you do not take the initiative to go seek help.  Everything academically at Brebeuf is doable because of our teachers, and this is exemplified when students make a sincere effort to go seek out their instructors for help.  The teachers and faculty are fantastic, and they are always willing to help out students who are in any need of any academic support whatsoever.
Who is your hero?
My parents are my heroes.  They always have my back no matter what, and always push me to be the best version of myself. They drive me everywhere on weekdays, weekends, holidays, etc. I could not do what I do without them, and I am truly grateful to have them in my life.
What is your dream job?
My dream job is to take over the Pokémon Company in Japan, and run it while playing Pokémon all day, every day.

36th Annual Brebeuf Jesuit President's Dinner

Brebeuf Jesuit President, Father Jack Dennis, S.J., is proud to announce the 2015 President’s Medal recipients are Andy and Lorna Mohr. The entire Brebeuf Jesuit community is invited to celebrate together as a school community to honor Andy and Lorna Mohr at The Conrad on September 24, 2015.
As leaders in the Indianapolis community and involved parents of Brebeuf Jesuit alumni Drew ’12 and Sam ’15, Andy and Lorna Mohr have demonstrated a deep commitment to Jesuit education through role-model-worthy volunteer involvement in their community, children’s lives, and in support of the students, faculty and staff at Brebeuf Jesuit.
In addition to their volunteer efforts at Brebeuf, they live our motto of Men and Women for Others with their service to the greater Indianapolis community through the United Way of Central Indiana, Junior Achievement, Indiana University, St. Luke’s Catholic Church and numerous other organizations.

These informal coffees will be held in the France Stone Room from 8:15-9:15 a.m. on Thursday, September 17; Wednesday, September 30; and Wednesday, October 14.

Register for Freshman Service Days

We will begin accepting permission forms for the Class of 2019 Freshman Service Days this week!  Freshman Service Days are completely voluntary and do not count towards the Community Service credit at Brebeuf.  They are offered each year to the incoming freshmen to help introduce them to Brebeuf Jesuit's mission of being men and women for others, and it is our hope that it will start them on a path of service beginning before and going far beyond the hours which they are required to complete during their junior and senior years.  This is also a great opportunity for freshmen to get to know more of their classmates outside of the classroom.
Freshmen can participate in one or all of the Freshman Service Days as space allows.  Class absences will be excused as long as permission slips are turned in two weeks prior to the trip.
More information and the permission slip can be accessed by clicking here.
If you have any questions, please contact Karla Geisse at kgeisse@brebeuf.org, or 317.524.7132.

Join Team DAJ for the Out of Darkness Walk

On Saturday, September 12 at Celebration Plaza in White River State Park, hundreds of walking teams will come together at 3:00 p.m. to take positive strides to prevent suicide through the Out of the Darkness community walk downtown.
This year, Brebeuf senior Joe O’Neil ’16 and members of our student leadership have again registered “Team DAJ” for the walk and invite all members of our community – parents, faculty, staff, alumni and friends - to join in and support the cause of suicide prevention. Last year, Team DAJ raised over $3,000 in this effort.
To join Team DAJ and/or donate to the cause, click here.
Net proceeds from the Out of the Darkness Community walks benefit the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP). To learn more about AFSP's mission, educational outreach, support, research and programs visit www.afsp.org.
