Uh oh. That’s the sound of allergy season in full bloom. Sneezing, itching and stuffiness are some common symptoms that come from pollen, dust and other things in the air. Many allergies can range from mild to miserable and may only require simple steps to avoid or treat them.
Know when it’s an emergency.
For some people, allergies can be life threatening. Things like eggs, milk and peanuts, bug bites and stings, medicines and latex can bring on bad reactions. Work with your doctor if you have allergies. And know the symptoms that need immediate medical attention, including:
  • Throat – Hoarseness, swelling/closure, itching
  • Mouth – Tongue and/or lip swelling, itching
  • Skin – Redness, swelling, itching, hives
  • Stomach – Cramps, vomiting, diarrhea
  • Lungs – Feeling short of breath, coughing, wheezing
  • Heart – Feeling dizzy; having a weak pulse; passing out
