More mental health services in local schools!
During the 2018-2019 school year, the Phoenix Center served 385 students with mental health needs through our partnership with Marble Falls ISD!
Phoenix Center provided 36 therapy groups in local schools - from Head Start to the High School! In addition to groups, Phoenix Center also provides individual therapy services to students in crisis, such as teens with suicidal ideation.
MFISD Teacher Feedback, 2019

Supporting teachers is integral to our mission and goal to address the needs of the Whole Child.
92% of students at EPIC, a long-term disciplinary placement, indicated that Phoenix Center groups helped them be more successful at school.
"Students who receive services have grown immensely from the beginning of the year to now and have gained so many coping skills.

Spotlight: Interview with Tenisha Graham
Why is it important to have mental health services in the schools?
“It is important to bring mental health services to schools because, as teachers, we try our best to comfort students who have experienced trauma or strife of any kind. We could teach these kids so much more if we knew the root of the behavior. The things our students are facing need a specific helping hand. A hand that can guide them toward mental health... I believe with early intervention, students that are showing signs of mental instability can be helped."
Is there a need for expanded Phoenix Center services? What would you like to see in the future?
"Yes, serve more kids.  When you are dealing with kids who have had traumatic pasts, families are also under a lot of stress, and if kids are not emotionally stable, they are not learning anyway.
So pulling them out for counseling is essential. It’s accessible and it’s more consistent."
What kind of changes did you see?
I saw great improvement. Huge. I saw a lot of self-regulation. I don’t think it felt like therapy to them even though they desperately needed it. And it was at school, which is honestly their safe place.

What was your experience with Phoenix Center's Therapist?
“She is able to stay more calm. She had the highest emotional intelligence of anyone I have ever seen. When students have that role model of emotional intelligence, that in itself is huge because a lot of adults don’t have that. They can feel her energy... It was always 'I want to go!  I want to go!' They wanted to go because they just fed off her positivity. She was that one safe person."
The continuation of this partnership is made possible by compassionate donors who believe all children deserve the highest level of mental health care.
