I hope that this missive finds everyone safe and well! If you are anything like me you have grown weary of the constraints that the COVID-19 pandemic imposed upon our lives.
While I appreciate spending the time near my family along with my vastly reduced commute time and not having to play parking spot roulette if I venture out for a mid-day meeting, I also find myself spending no little time worrying about my faculty and staff colleagues and about our students.
Spring 2020 Commencement Highlights
April 26 was a big day for many in the UM-Dearborn community — nearly 1100 students graduated. Although there wasn’t a physical ceremony, the community rallied to recognize their achievement.
Lena Juratli (left) and Ellie White were recognized as CASL's two Chancellor's Medallion recipients. Faculty choose Chancellor's Medallion recipients based on academic records, quality of character, vitality, intellect and integrity.
Commencement speaker was Cecilia P. Olvera, a CASL MPAP graduate. Below you can listen to her words of inspiration for her fellow graduates.

Your Gifts to CASL Change Student Lives
During this time of uncertainty and transition, your gifts to the CASL Annual Fund will continue to support CASL student success. In fact, your investment in CASL students is more important than ever.
For example, your gifts will make it possible for CASL students to participate in internships and undergraduate research. These experiences will be delivered virtually and remotely until it is safe for students to return to campus or internship sites, and will also prepare students to learn and work in whatever ways the future requires. Thank you for being an everyday hero for CASL students!

Videos of CASL undergraduate research projects, like the one above, can be found on CASL's Virtual Undergraduate Research Presentations website.  This site was created because students did not have the opportunity this semester to present their research in class or at conferences due to COVID-19.

UM-Dearborn COVID-19 Update
CASL
Bernie Klein, UM-Dearborn professor emeritus, was known for humor, intellect and congeniality.
A memorial fund, set up in his name, will be used to support CASL students for tuition, fees, books, research, travel, conference fees, and other student needs identified by the Dean to reflect Klein's fondness for educating students and concern about growing student debt.

Support Students
Your support transforms lives.
As the coronavirus pandemic continues to affect our campus and our community, we are so heartened by your generosity.  Many have asked how they can help support our students during this time.
One way is through a gift to the UM-Dearborn Immediate Relief COVID-19 fund.
